Summary

Man kommt seinem Goethe schon sehr nahe durch diese gut 200 Tagebuchaufzeichnungen. Seinem Goethe? Dem Eckermann'schen natürlich, was Johann Peter Eckermann selbst einräumt. Trotz dieser einschränkenden Perspektive sind und bleiben die Gespräche ein unverzichtbares Dokument für das Verstehen des wohl bedeutendsten deutschen Denkers und Dichters. Übrigens: Heinrich Heine verspottete Eckermann als "Goethes Papagei", während Friedrich Nietzsche die "Gespräche" als bestes Buch des 19. Jahrhunderts bezeichnete.
