Summary

Young, attractive and wealthy, Alice Vavasor is a woman in the prime of her life. And yet one question torments her: "What should a woman do with her life?" Torn between the kind but dull Mr. Grey and her dangerous and exciting cousin George, she is prone to constant indecision and uncertainty, much to the detriment of Mr. Grey. Can You Forgive Her? is a crisp and engaging novel, brimming with romance, humor, and pathos. It is the first of six in Trollope's celebrated Palliser series.

Very satisfying

A wonderful book, wonderfully narrated by David Shaw-Parker. The reader has a lovely, rich ‘Mr Kipling makes exceedingly good cakes’ voice! (I am showing my age here, but perhaps a few other listeners will remember the Mr Kipling adverts!!)

I was throughout amazed at how perceptive Anthony Trollope is as regards people’s feelings and thought processes - in this book particularly those of a young woman! I was very impressed indeed.

There isn’t much ‘action’ as such, but if you want to immerse yourself in a beautifully written and narrated piece of Victorian literature then this is for you.

Enthralling tale

Amusing moral tale of love and lovers, not much politics, narrated as by Trollope and superbly read by David Shaw Parker. Wonderful characterisation by Parker, very droll, full of irony. I think Lady Glencora's voice should have been a bit younger but otherwise perfect, enthralling listening.

Another age comes to life

This is a wonderful book with so many interesting characters and storylines. Despite the politics of the time being somewhat foreign to me, I felt very much at home in this era. Unfortunately I had to return to 2017! Trollope is very definitely one of my favourites!

Brilliant

It is so refreshing to find a great narrator. One who doesn’t get in the way with a booming Shakespearean voice and over enunciation. Brilliant book beautifully read. Thankyou.
