Summary

Welcome back to Mount Polbearne! The new book from Top Ten best seller Jenny Colgan is full of festive joy, warmth and the best hot chocolate you can imagine....

It's Christmas in the Cornish coastal village of Mount Polbearne - a time for family, friends and feasting.

Polly Waterford loves running the Little Beach Street Bakery. She's at her happiest when she's creating delicious treats and the festive season always inspires her to bake and knead something extra special for the village residents. In fact, the only thing she loves more than her bakery is curling up with her gorgeous boyfriend, Huckle. She's determined that this Christmas is going to be their best one yet, but life doesn't always work out as planned....

When Polly's best friend Kerensa turns up with a secret that threatens the life Polly and Huckle have built together, the future begins to look uncertain. And then a face from Polly's past reappears and things become even more complicated. Polly can usually find solace in baking but she has a feeling that's not going to be enough this time. Can she get things back on track so that everyone has a merry Christmas?

Kind of ok

I kind of liked this book. But unrealistic. Not really really Christmassy. It was more of a nod to Christmas. I’m not quite buying into Neil the pet puffin and the ending was verging on ridiculous which got me shouting quite literally that that was “highly unlikely”. I love a bit of fantasy but this was a bit too far fetched for me and clearly left open for many more follow on books.

Dreadful American accents

The story was ok, although a bit too far fetched in places. The narration of the 2 American men speaking was probably the most irritating voice I've ever listened to, it totally spoilt the book and I debated whether to give up as it was just so annoying.

fabulous!

What a jolly and happy little story. I listened to this between Christmas and New Year and it was perfect company for chilly winter walks and tidying the house! Just lovely.

Chick lit

An entertaining listen, easy to keep track of and I was enjoying it by the end, although there's not much to it other than a fairly predictable storyline

Delightful

Delightful story with real characters and twists and turns of humanity's fragility and ability to overcome pain and turmoil. Loved the Cornish setting. Left me with wanting more, a real page turner.

Perfect to get you in the mood for Christmas

Warm, cosy and delightful. Loved being back at the Beach Street Bakery and I hope we get to go back. Classic Colgan at her best.

Couldn’t get into this one

I’ve loved following the adventures of Polly, Neil and friends, but this one just irritated me. Nothing really happens, the story flies about all over the place, and ends up stagnant. Definitely not the author’s finest hour. Not helped at all by the terrible narration; don’t attempt American accents if you can’t do accents…

Lovely story - awful narrator

I love this series but the narrator just about ruined it. Her accents are awful and just shouldn’t have bothered. Her intonations miss and her way of reading is just dreadful. Instead of hearing the story and getting lost in it, her narration often jerked me out of it. Really wish they would pick narrators who can narrate…

Couldn't listen to it

Unfortunately, I couldn't get passed the first few chapters because of the American accents...they really annoyed me! It's a shame as the narrator's own voice was very pleasant.
