Summary

Max, Leon and Matthew - together at last for Christmas at St Mary's, a time of conspicuous consumption, riotous misbehaviour and the traditional illegal Christmas jump. And this time it's intergenerational.

Donning her unfamiliar mother hat, Max takes Matthew back to 19th-century London, where they plan to deliver a parcel of Christmas cheer to his former friends but find themselves confronting the terrifying Old Ma Scrope in the process.

'Tis the season to be jolly. It's also the season of goodwill towards all mankind.

Pity no-one told Max.

Really enjoyed the story

Really enjoyed the story a bit like a twisted version of Charles Dickens a Christmas Carol

I happily recommend it 👍👍👍👍

A huge dose of Mushy

Fantastic listen to! I LOVE Jodis work anyway, but this short Christmas story was by far one of the niceset sweetest candy floss and candy cane flavoured with cherry sauce on the top stories ever! I thought at first it was going to be a re run of a christmas carol, but no, its much better than that. If you havent heard of Jodi Taylor yet you are missing out, and if you havent heard any of the short stories, then give this one a go, with a cup of tea, warm fire and cake, as its just perfect for a long winter evening.

She did it again!!!!!!

Another great Christmas treat from Jodi Taylor. Max and the disaster magnets of St Mary's barge into trouble yet again.

When's the next book due.

The only disappointment with reading this book is I have now read them all and have to wait for the next Jodi Taylor book.

A lovely short story which continues the St Marys series. Zara Ramms narration, as ever, is delightful and brings the characters alive. Looking forward to the next instslment

I wish I could give more stars than 5

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. It’s 10pm Christmas Day and the relatives have gone home, the house is clean again, and no one found my stash of cookies. I started this story and fell in love with Max all over again.

Glorious!!

This is ridiculously satisfying. The narrator, as always, was wonderful. A mother's story, her son's story and exactly what needed to happen.
I've listened to it at least a dozen times.

Sweet little short story

This was a short and sweet story in which Max and her son Matthew go back in time to check on Mathew's fellow chimney sweeps in London. They take great Christmas presents and also deal with the horrible Mrs. Scrope who was so cruel to Matthew when he was a chimney sweep. The narrator, Zara Ramm is awesome as usual. My only complaint is that it cost too much to be only about an hour and a half long. I took away a star for that reason.

More!

A great follow up to the last story. Love the St. Mary's Christmas stories. I'm just ready for another full length novel.

I love Christmas at St.. Mary's!

...or wherever they are in time. Max is always a hoot, Leon is always as taciturn as ever, and this time nobody dies, at least while Max is there. I've listened to all of the Christmas short stories from Jodi Taylor's series, and they are always good. I won't use up a credit for a short story, but I'm willing to pay the cash price because it's worth it. Zara Ramm nails the narration every time, too. Just like Tiny Tim saying, "God bless us everyone!" Matthew's "Mummy is awesome!" maybe one of the best Christmas closing lines ever.

Sad but hopeful

Matthew and Leon come to visit Max at St Mary’s for Christmas. It’s bittersweet in that they live with the Time Police for their safety and health.
Max takes Matthew with for her annual unauthorized Christmas excursion. They take food and blankets to the 2 remaining Scropes boys that Matthew was living with. Then they jump to the next Christmas to check if the boys survived.
Matthew comes back lighter of spirit.

Touching

Max takes Matthew back to early Victorian England to help the two little boys who were chimney sweeps alongside him. This is a sweet novella-not funny like the rest of the St. Mary's series-but VERY enjoyable!
