Summary

Kevin Kwan, best-selling author of Crazy Rich Asians, is back with a wickedly funny new novel of social climbing, secret e-mails, art-world scandal, lovesick billionaires and the outrageous story of what happens when Rachel Chu, engaged to marry Asia's most eligible bachelor, discovers her birth father.

On the eve of her wedding to Nicholas Young, heir to one of the greatest fortunes in Asia, Rachel should be over the moon. She has a flawless Asscher-cut diamond from JAR, a wedding dress she loves more than anything found in the salons of Paris, and a fiancé willing to sacrifice his entire inheritance in order to marry her. But Rachel still mourns the fact that her birth father, a man she never knew, won't be able to walk her down the aisle.

Until: a shocking revelation draws Rachel into a world of Shanghai splendor beyond anything she has ever imagined. Here we meet Carlton, a Ferrari-crashing bad boy known for Prince Harry-like antics; Colette, a celebrity girlfriend chased by fevered paparazzi; and the man Rachel has spent her entire life waiting to meet: her father.

Meanwhile, Singapore's It Girl, Astrid Leong, is shocked to discover that there is a downside to having a newly minted tech billionaire husband. A romp through Asia's most exclusive clubs, auction houses and estates, China Rich Girlfriend brings us into the elite circles of Mainland China, introducing a captivating cast of characters and offering an inside glimpse at what it's like to be gloriously, crazily China-rich.

Great continuation

Really great continuation from Crazy Rich Asians.
Only downside is that the footnotes get read mid sentence which spoils the flow in places. but it's a tiny thing

Thoroughly enjoyable

A few surprises in store for Racheal and Nick.

The narration was excellent and I occasionally forgot it was only one person doing all the voices.

Fab narrative

Fab narrative, thoroughly enjoyed the book but found the mispronunciation of certain words a little jarring.

Absolutely loved this

I’ve been getting bing audiobooks for my journey to work and I started reading crazy rich Asians because I loved the movie and this book has been full of ups and downs I’ve been thoroughly intrigued throughout

Labels you have never heard of

How many 'Labels' can you fit in one sentence? Try this book to find out. I really enjoyed this book of openly pretentious twaddle, if only to remind me that the more e money purple e get the more braincells they lose!

3 stars overall

This is the sequel to Crazy Rich Asians, which I loved. This on the other hand, I liked quite a lot less. I just found it so hard to care.

lovely story, good pace, inconsistent narration.

I enjoyed the story a lot, listening to the book in record time. however, the narrator was inconsistent with her accent and the one she choose for Rachel was a little grating to hear. but all in all got used to it and listened happily.

So much detail

There’s a huge range of characters in this sequel to Crazy Rich Asians and it takes a while to be introduced to them, and a bit longer before you begin to care a bit about them.

It’s a strange mix of a book, well drawn characters plus some bit players, some interesting storylines plus some fluff, but throughout it all there’s the distracting detail of every single designer’s name even down to naming rugs and golf shirts! Plus the reading out of the footnotes in the middle of the narration which I’m not sure actually helps.

There’s some jarring mispronunciations by the narrator. Sometimes these are laugh out loud, sometimes so bad you end up guessing what the original word could be! But overall the narrator does a decent job with such a huge cast of characters and you’ll keep going just to find out what happens next.

Despite this book being about profligate, spoiled, sometimes dislikeable people, it does have some charm and it kept me going whilst packing my house up for a move. And yes, I’ll be buying the final instalment to find out what happens not just to Nick and Rachel, but everyone else I was entertained by in this book.

Great book, poor narration

I really enjoyed the narration of the first book but the narration of this one is very distracting. The pace is weird and there are long mid-sentence pauses making it quite frustrating to listen to. I ended up getting the actual book instead.

A fun, easy read with a unique angle!

This book really draws you in, all the plot lines are easy to follow so it’s the perfect story to read between heavier books.
I really liked the narrator and all the author notes were really interesting, I learned a lot!
So yeah I definitely recommend.
