Summary

After her boyfriend dumps her for her older sister, sophomore Savannah Delano wishes she could find a true prince to take her to the prom. Enter Chrissy (Chrysanthemum) Everstar: Savannah's gum-chewing, cell phone carrying, high heel-wearing Fair Godmother. Showing why she's only Fair, because she's not a very good fairy student, Chrissy mistakenly sends Savannah back in time to the Middle Ages, first as Cinderella, then as Snow White. Finally she sends Tristan, a boy in Savannah's class, back instead to turn him into her prom-worthy prince. When Savannah returns to the Middle Ages to save Tristan, they must team up to defeat a troll, a dragon, and the mysterious and undeniably sexy Black Knight. Laughs abound in this clever fairy tale twist from a master of romantic comedy.

A Pleasant Surprise!

I found this story a heartwarming, pleasant surprise. Excellent writing, (with a sort of wry, wizened humor that you don't realize the main character possesses right at first), and endearing characters that touch your heart. This is a fresh take on a young adult story...particularly as a "take-off" of a fairy tale. I really enjoyed the character growth as the story moves along. The main character shows so much more depth and strength of character than you might believe right at the start. She is an unique "voice" among other things I've read. There is an unusual flow to this story due to the rather early "twist"..I thought it was entertaining and pretty cool how the story takes a turn and is not actually all about the characters that it seems like it will be centered on at the outset. I felt the narration by Ms. De Cuir was excellent and quite convincing for the characters.

A fun, lighthearted read.

What made the experience of listening to My Fair Godmother the most enjoyable?

It had so many funny moments, I kept chuckling and snorting throughout the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

You've got three wishes. Choose carefully.

Any additional comments?

Here's the skinny:

Savannah gets dumped by her boyfriend, Hunter, so he can date her older sister Jane, who looks a lot like Savannah, but also happens to be smart, responsible and organized. So Chrissy (the fairy) is assigned as Savannah's godmother as an extra credit assignment to give her three wishes. But Chrissy is coincidentally just as bad as Savannah when it comes to smarts and paying attention in class, and totally messes up Savannah's wishes, turning her into a Cinderella who meets a handsome yet a-hole prince, and then to a Snow White who is borderline retarded. This reminded me a lot of the movie Bedazzled, where Brendan Fraser gets all his wishes screwed up on purpose by the devil (Elizabeth Hurley).

For Savannah's third wish, Chrissy manages to screw it up by sending Tristan (the boy that likes her) into the middle ages to literally become a prince so he can take Savannah to prom, and he cannot return home until he accomplishes this. So Savannah figures out a way to get sent to the middle ages to help Tristan, who she soon learns, has to defeat a cyclops, a dragon, and a mysterious enchanted black knight in order to earn the title of prince.

I figured out who the black knight was right away, among other things Savannah failed to deduce until late in the story, but she's not supposed to be a smart girl so I'll cut her some slack. There was also not as much showing as I would have liked, but all in all, this book was very enjoyable. I loved Tristan and Savannah, and I was hooked the whole time I was reading it.

Funny "take" on Fairy Godmothers!

I LOVED this book! It was funny and unpredictable! I have several students(7th/8th grade) who have also read this book and they can't put it down! I look forward to reading more stories by this author!

Cute-Tastic!

This book is a roller-coaster of pretty pinkish FLUFF and all things ridiculous and girly.

DO NOT listen to this book if you are a "book snob" or someone looking to become an intellectual by ticking off all the fabulously smarty pants books you have read. If you are said person stop reading this now.

If your looking for fun then it just fell in your lap! A super quick read with (surprisingly) a few surprises. I highly recommend this book to lovers of YA, comedy, satire, and very light romance.

Enjoy :)
