Summary

First published by brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm in 1812 as a collection of retold Germanic folk stories, this collection of such well-known fairytales as "Rapunzel" and "Sleeping Beauty" transports listeners to a realm where "Once upon a time" often ends up "happily ever after"…and where giants, princesses, kings, and fairies pursue power, find true love, have all sorts of magical adventures — and in the process reveal multi-faceted truths about human nature.

Good Narrating

I rated this audio book at five purely on the narrating. I grew up with these stories and found them endearing after such long time.

For anyone who is looking for nice stories for young children and who has not read Grimm's Fairy Tales before, please don't chose this. The content is very grim indeed. All these Fairy Tales have these characteristic that I do not think are suitable for young children whose minds are still growing/absorbing: cruelty, misogynous, sexism, gender stereotype, fear, glorification of violence, dishonesty dressed up as wit and etc. In all, these stories reflect a bygone age with barbaric morality. I would not encourage any child under the age of ten to hear this book, even after the age of ten, to the age of 16, parents should be there to explain the difference between that time and this time and why something described in there is no longer suitable for this generation/era.

Dreadful should come with a warning, not nice

Again I bought to listen to with children but this is byond belief, dreadfully read, very dark, chopping people up, people in trunks running round in dressing gowns, just what is this all about, I am very unhappy as there is no warning
