Enchanting

Really interesting and transports you away. Yes, a different world from today, a lost world really, but Enid Blyton is still a joy. Really interesting too with the history of Christmas traditions. Jilly Bond’s voice seems to fit right in with the wonderful prose.

What A Fantastic Festive Book

Having used one of my credits on this book I recently sat down to enjoy some great festive reading and what a fantastic book it was from beginning to end. The only story I didn't enjoy that much was the one about the Jack in the box but that was, I think, more that it was more suitable for children aged 5, 6 and 7. The book has stories woven into the Family Christmas story so that after every part of the story you get a different story but it's so well set out to give parents the chance to put a story on each night for their children after they've gone to bed before they eventually turn over and sleep. There were some great stories such as the generous boy Harry and how he got rewarded for his gallant behaviour, Santa's visit to the two children who nearly went without presents because of their rude behaviour and bad school report, but repented of it in the end and the group of children who helped their mother out when she'd lost her money. Whatever age you are, it's a fantastic book of some great festive reading.

Santa Spoiler Alert

If your child still believes in Santa don't get this. In the first chapter a 10year old boy doesn't believe and is mocked for hanging out his stocking.
My kids have listened to lots of Enid Blyton and I know it's a little older but my kids love it. Unfortunately this one is a not suitable in this instance. I'm scared to play anymore in case there's more spoilers to make them doubt Santa.
