Summary

Read by Paul Newman, Sidney Poitier, Kathleen Turner, and Matthew Broderick, here are the stories of the immortals of Olympus - the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece - as freshly described as if they were alive today.

Mighty Zeus, with his fistful of thunderbolts; mischievous little Hermes; grey-eyed Athena, godess of wisdom; Asclepius, the first physician; Orpheus and his beloved Euridice; Helios the sun, crossing the heavens in his fiery chariot.... these and other equally fabulous figures are featured here with their heroic deeds and petty squabbles illuminated in full dimension.

Critic reviews

"For any child fortunate enough to have this generous book...the kings and heroes of ancient legend will remain forever matter-of-fact; the pictures interpret the text literally and are full of detail and witty observation." ( Horn Book)

Why are there no chapter titles

This really needs chapter titles- impossible to use effectively without this. Really poor! Please fix!

Wonderful!

My six year-old is enthralled. The quality of the reading and different voices is great. The prose is child appropriate without losing the grittiness and imagination of Greek mythology and I even find the stories enjoyable. I hope Audible does some more of the D’Aulaires works soon. We also have the hard copy books as they are wonderfully illustrated. I highly recommend this one.

Great and satisfying.

I always liked the Greek myths, and multiple narrators make this book fun and enjoyable to listen to. I liked the story of Perseus and medusa as well as Hercules' tale.
