Publisher's Summary

Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, middle-aged siblings who live together in the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island, decide to adopt a boy from an orphan asylum to help on their farm. But owing to a series of mishaps, the child who is delivered to their care is not a boy at all but a precocious girl of 11 named Anne Shirley. Although, as Marilla dryly informs her, "you certainly have a genius for getting into trouble", with pluck, imagination, and optimism, Anne flourishes at Green Gables. And Matthew and Marilla find their lives transformed and their hearts opened to a deeper love than they ever knew possible.

    "Great story very well read"

This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.

What a wonderful story, I will be encouraging my children to read this (or at least listen to it)
The narrator was great, after a while you forget she is there which is a very good sign.

I would greatly recommend this Audiobook.

"Excellent Narration of a Delightful Classic"

When siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert decide to adopt a little orphan boy from the asylum, dreamy and talkative Anne Shirley arrives by mistake. Matthew is immediately smitten with the little redhaired orphan, and although she holds out longer, Marilla can't help loving her either. With her many mishaps, funny quaint speeches and her fierce loyalty, Anne will win her way into your heart as well.

LM Montgomery wrote that she was no good at writing a young girl romantic love story, but what she created with this alternative family unit is even more special. Gentle Matthew as a father figure, instantly and unconditionally loving Anne. Stern Marilla as a maternal figure, desperate to raise Anne as best she can, but scared by the depth of her love for the girl. And the whole neighborhood of Avonlea as a host of aunts and uncles, offering advice and censure for the little waif who never quite fit in.

Anne herself defies description. She's eternally optimistic, glossing over her own neglected background. She's loving and loyal, unconditionally giving of herself. She's imaginative, creating dream worlds she shares with her friends. Anne has her share of faults too, she's hotheaded and vain, which lead to some of her more memorable mishaps. It makes her infinitely human and lovable. I'm glad I read these books at such a young age, and I would recommend sharing these books with younger readers. There are so many lessons we can learn from Anne.

This was my first time listening to an audio version of this book, and it was a wonderful performance. Laurel Schroeder has a young sensitive voice, and she brought a touch of vulnerability at just the right places. She really captured the spirit of Anne. During conversations she changed her pitch slightly to easily convey who was speaking. She never overacted, her easy pace allows the listener to interpret the emotions portrayed. I received a copy of the audiobook and I'm voluntarily leaving a review. I do hope that this narrator continues to bring the rest of the series to life.

    "The best narration I've heard"

While Ms. Schroeder's annunciation isn't always perfect, the voice changes, inflections, cadence and character she puts into her voice for each member of the AOGG cast is the best version I've heard.

Would you listen to Anne of Green Gables again? Why?

I might listen to it again some time in the future, when I feel like having another foray into the past. It was a very pleasant experience.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I would say that fiery Ann is everybody's favorite character, and I am not an exception. An optimistic orphan with wild imagination is such a delightful person.

Have you listened to any of Laurel Schroeder’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't listened to any of Laurel Schroeder's other performance yet, but I would like to give it a try. She has a very pleasant voice and conveys people's feelings very well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I remember that I had cried and laughed along with Anne, when I was a child. Listening to this book brought back good memories.

    Any additional comments?

A very sweet version of all time favorite made my day brighter. A great book with a very pleasant narration, which fits very well with my memories of this story.

I received this audiobook at no-cost from Audiobookworm Promotions. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

I never heard this story before.I really enjoyed having Laurel Schroeder narrating it for me.Anne is an orphane that Merrilie and Matthew adopt, even though they wanted a boy.Anne has a huge imagination, which evidently was frowned upon at the time.“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”

"One of My Favorite Stories from My Youth"
    Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. One of my favorite stories from my youth and narrated by one of my favorite female narrating performers. Laurel Schroeder doesn't disappoint and does a great job performing one of my favorite stories and characters. I hope she performs more books in the series so I can own them all. I highly recommend this audiobook version of a classic written my Lucy Maud Montgomery.

    "Outstanding Update to Beloved Classic!"
    Any additional comments?

The audiobook of the Anne of Green Gables narrated by Laurel Schroeder is an outstanding update to the children’s classic. Written by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1908, it tells the tale of Anne Shirley who is orphaned after her parents are killed (by a virus that is probably curable with antibiotics today). Having visited the Canadian setting where the book is set a few years ago, Montgomery accurately captured the splendor and awe of the island and I could easily close my eyes and recall the beauty of the area while listening.

The story begins at Green Gables, a farm outside Avonlea, Prince Edward Island with an elderly couple (brother and sister) desiring to adopt a 10-11 year boy to help out around the farm. What they get instead is a redheaded, spunky, chatterbox who makes up words that sound more sophisticated. The rest of the story is basically the various adventures and scrapes that Anne gets into over the next 6-7 years. What makes Anne's character so enduring is that she is far from perfect. She makes mistakes, like we do. But Anne's ability to shrug off her mistakes and value learning from each one is truly admirable and inspirational.

Laurel Schroeder did an absolutely outstanding job narrating this book. She provided distinct and consistent voices for all characters, young and old. She has a spunk and sassiness in her readings that make listening very enjoyable. In summary, an excellent book that is superbly narrated! Brava!

"Not a fave listen, but a well done, popular title"

I must admit that this is one of the few, shall I say classics, that I had never read. I put in along side Little Women, Black Beauty, and a few others presupposing they would not interest me. As it turns out, this title struck me as an interesting (albeit not too in-depth) listen dealing with the transformed lives of a child and those touched by her presence. The narration was well done, fit the work seamlessly, and made for a very easy listen.

I am fairly certain I probably would not have had the wisdom to appreciate the underlying story had I listened to it as a young reader, but that did not inhibit my experience as an adult.

A review copy of this audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in return for this unbiased review. My hope is that this review helps in your decision to obtain this book.

    "Darling Anne"

Four generations of our family read Anne of Green Gables growing up and enjoyed it (as well as the rest of the series). Although published in 1908, according to my teen daughters, Anne's preteen/teenage experiences still resonate with teens today. For me LM Montgomery's writing falls into the category of comfort reads. Her books are beautifully written with gorgeous descriptions and wonderful characters, and while Anne is not even close to my favourite LMM, it is still a lovely read, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Narration: Laurel Schroeder has a clear, pleasant voice and she did a nice job of narrating the story using different character voices. Where the audio really shone was in her voicing of Anne. Laurel managed an impressive tone where she was able to portray Anne's youthful enthusiasm, but in a slightly subdued fashion. I loved how this brought home Anne's many years as an orphan where her exuberance would have been quashed.

Side note: Please please could someone do an audible for LM Montgomery's The Blue Castle. Valancy still remains one of my favourite fictional female characters.

For those who like to know... there is absolutely no sex, profanity or violence, and can be read by (or read to) all ages:)

I received Anne of Green Gables free in exchanged for an unbiased review.

"A well narrated version of this classic!"

The narration of this classic was very well executed with only a few editing errors that didn't amount to any annoyance.

We could all benefit at least a little from the undaunted attitude of little AnnE as she overcomes the many obstacles that would crush the spirits of a normal child. The endearing effect of her imaginative, adventurous, and inadvertently mischievous personality is masterfully portrayed in the lives of the other characters that surround her in this classic tale.
