Publisher's Summary

Children are not supposed to rescue their parents, life is supposed to be the other way around. And rescues aren't supposed to be needed on the trip out to the new colony planet Valhalla. Slow, yes. Boring, yes. Dangerous? No, the trip is not supposed to be dangerous, never has been.

When thieves attack the transport ship to steal an ancient alien artifact, and young Kaylee and her brother, Manny, are cut off from their parents, they have to stop the thieves from getting what they want, because once the thieves have the artifact, they're not leaving any witnesses.

    "kid friendly sci fi."

It has a kid friendly vibe to it in the way it has been written. Like a young adventure book. It feels like this could be an animated movie very easily. A great little story with lots of personality. enjoyed it alot.

    "great book and great performance"

Craig alanson is one of those rare occurrances in sci fi and fantasy... no matter what he writes its always great. He is no CS Lewis, Robert Jordan, TS elliot, Tolkien, Orson Scott Card or Jules Verne (and so on) he is Craig Alanson! Out of all the books in my audible library he is always one of the first authors i remember when offering up recommendations or searching for new books to listen to. I enjoy his books just as much as one of the classics, poetry/prose and just as much if not more then many of the more current works available today.

A well written (and narrated) book will transport you to another place. Craig Alanson and MacLeod Andrews do that here in only the way they can!

Macleod Andrews did a great job. I now have one more name to search when it comes to narration. Often times the narator is just not given enough credit but can absolutely "kill" an audible release even if it is the greatest book ever written... in this case he gave it life and a dimension that ray porter, time Gerard Reynolds and Nick poehdel could not have achieved so masterfully as MacLeod Andrews did.

    "This author never disappoints!"

Although this book was aimed at a young adult audience, it is a FUN adventure for anyone who loves science-fiction and great characters. You might also enjoy this author’s Ascendant series. If you are an adult just discovering this author, be sure to check out Craig Alanson’s exceptional and addictive Expeditionary Force series narrated by the great RC Bray, for which readers need a 6 star rating option!

"Its a YA science fiction, it was good, though."

Bought this because of the author, the book and the performance were very good, but aimed at a young audience. Good clean intro to sci fi for the kids.

    "Good young adult/kids book"

This is an entertaining story and setting. It seems written for kids and would have a great appeal....I did not know this when I started the audiobook and at first was disappointed but continued on and enjoyed it. If you set your expectations correctly then sit back and enjoy the story.

    "Great book—totally unique"

Alanson’s first effort demonstrates that he had fine story crating skills right from the start. A master of putting serious underdogs in impossible situations and making a great tale of their alternate triumphs and disasters. This one was not as polished as the Ascendant or Expeditionary series books, but it really was every bit as good.

"Young Adult, but too cliche and dumbed down"

Performance was ok, but the characters and dialogue were far too low level. My kids felt that the story was too dumbed down for them.
