About this listen

Ryo was a chef, an extremely good one at that. That was until the entire universe as he knew it changed.

After his spaceship is attacked and destroyed by an enemy armada, he finds himself in a situation he never could have imagined.

Sent back in time and to an alternate reality, he has quite a few choices to make. Especially considering that the ruthless Kublai Khan and his Mongol Horde are just a few years away.

Accompanied by an extremely advanced Artificial Intelligence, a medieval noble, and his samurai retainers, Ryo sets out to change the known world. At least this dimension's version of it!

With his knowledge of history and the help of his companions can he stop the unstoppable tide of the greatest war machine the East Asian continent has ever known?

Join Ryo as he tries to change history with a little bit of luck, a lot of technical know-how, and some fantastic food!

Performance
This is the first Audiobook I have listened to narrated by Lee Osorio and he does an amazing job, his pacing is steady and diction leads to little issue understanding his words this is especially helpful for the many eastern names, locations and lore.

Story
The main story is fun and interesting with a good deal of potential for the books sequals.

The Bad
The actual Storyline is about 7 hours or so with around 4 hours of interludes, you get a chapter or 2 following the main characters then an interlude, the content of the interludes are usually very minor world building in the form of 'meanwhile a pointless conversation with the Khan' they sadly feel frivolous, out of place and feel like an attempt to pad the read time.

That aside the book is one of the better introductions to a new series I have read and I look forwards to the next installment... just... less interludes please.

A Fun Story with too many interludes
