Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Chasing the Dead by Tim Weaver, read by Joe Coen and Lee Ingleby.

One year ago Alex Towne's body was found. One month ago his mother saw him on the street. One week ago David Raker agreed to look for him. Now he wishes he hadn't.

Mary Towne's son, Alex, went missing six years ago. Five years later he finally turned up - as a corpse in a car wreck. Missing persons investigator David Raker doesn't want the work: it's clearly a sad but hopeless case of mistaken identity brought to him by a woman unable to let go of her son. But haunted by a loss of his own, Raker reluctantly agrees. Big mistake. For as he digs deeper, he discovers that Alex's life was not the innocent one his mother believed. Buried in his past are secrets that were never meant to be found - and dark, dangerous men willing to kill to protect them. Soon Raker will discover that there are things far worse than death....

Begging for it to be over

Wow, with an hour or so left to go, I just can't finish. Hands down the most tedious book I've listened to. The beginning few chapters were very good, but overall it's predictable, and omg why use a sentence, when you can drag it out for a whole chapter. I'm at the point now where I don't care if the protagonist David gets killed. I'm giving up, I don't even care how it ends.

Unusual but very well written book

Initially I found it a little difficult to get into this book, however perseverance was well worth it. The story twists and turns effectively and characters return unexpectedly throughout the book. The subject matter, evil alternative religion, is nasty and I really didn't see the final twist coming. Recommended

Wha???

Cliched plot line, convoluted story inhabited by less than believable characters! I’ll never get those hours back..... my advice..... don’t go there!

Too many lucky escapes

Quite a good story but the fights and escapes from imminent death became monotonous. I got quite bored with the lengthy confrontations. Still very listenable though.

Dire

This must be amongst the worst book I have read for some time. Initially it had the power to engross, but as the story went on it became a dire farce and totally ridiculous in its crafting. Lines like " she had lived with this man for 23 years, but had not known him at all" , and the " He had listened to the TV on mute??? ". The narration was however first class hence the 2 stars I have given in sympathy for them in trying to breed life into the most ridiculous story.

Good story but I wasn't a fan of the narrator

Good story but over emphasised at times, obviously to increase the dramatic effect but was over cooked for me at times. In saying this, I did enjoy the story and I have therefore purchased the next book.

Chasing The Dead

I seem to be listening to Tim Weaver's David Raker series in an odd order, for example I started with book #8. Anyway, this is the first and it ties in nicely with later events. I really loved listening to it and found it hugely compelling. I did have to skip some of the macabre torture scenes though.

The narrators were both brilliant and brought David Raker to life. Recommended.

Fantastic Writer and Narrator!

I have already read all of the David Raker series and now reading them again. Joe Coen becomes David Raker and with clever writing from Tim Weaver, draws you in to the story and making you want more.

Thank you

Not the best thing I've read

Something a bit childlike in his writing writing. I downloaded 2 more before I had listened and now regret it. If you looking for a good thriller and great plott this isn't it.

Captivating story with suprising twists and bad sound quality

You can hear background noise when narrator speaks. It is distracting and amateurish.

Story is narrated from first person views which needs get used to.

The author is learning how to use English language.
