Summary

Can an exciting new outlook on life help Connie heal her damaged heart?

Connie White is running away from an abusive relationship. Fear and desperation have driven her to Bowdley Hall Hotel in the Scottish Highlands, where, despite an unceremonious start, she appears to have fallen on her feet. The owner, Frances McKenzie, is kind and understanding and seems happy for Connie to hide out in her hotel for a while.

With a roof over her head and a job as a chambermaid, Connie is in a better situation than she could ever have hoped for. Her workmates seem nice, but she’s determined to keep them at arm’s length. After all, how can she form connections if she’s unwilling to divulge anything about herself?

Her apparent mysteriousness doesn’t faze her gorgeous new colleagues Will MacIntyre, Nico Moretti, and Ashley Fox. All three show a keen interest in her, but Connie has absolutely no intention of going there. She hasn’t fled one relationship only to get involved with someone else, no matter how gorgeous. She simply isn’t ready for that.

When an epiphany of sorts makes her realize she’s living a half-life by keeping herself so cut off from everyone, she finally lets someone in. That someone shows her there can be something between singledom and a full-on relationship. And when casual dating is on the cards, anything is possible...

Different

I so enjoyed listening to Frankie Holland, who I thought brought the characters and story of this book to life and made it even more enjoyable. Having run away for domestic abuse Connie finds herself in a Scottish hotel. She finds herself cared for by three men. Will, Ashley and Nico, who all work there. It is with these three men Connie finds her confidence and becomes empowered. This is beautiful and at times hot book.

Protecting Her Heart

I thoroughly enjoyed the writing and narration 90% of the book. Actually the narration 100% so well done giving the characters voices and emotion..great storytelling. The characters , main and secondary, are interesting and fun to see them evolve...and I love that this isn’t just erotic, but a story of a woman trying to figure her life out...i just wanted to shake her at about the 75% point...to get a grip..plus her change in attitude just didn’t play right with me..not that her new friend could convince her to ‘date’ I do enjoy Lucy Felthouse..erotic stories with actual characters. Not the ending I expected

The narration for this story was spot on; so well picked for this book. This book started out one way and did a complete left turn about 3/4 of the way through; I'm not saying a bad left turn but whoa. She starts out timid and scared and ends up the exact opposite in a matter of days. It just changed directions too quick for it to feel natural. If you can get past that the narration keeps you in it to the end. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

enjoyed it

Short, easy listen, Connie is a likeable character and shows some personal growth. I enjoyed Frankie Holland's narration, she has a nice voice that suits Connie's personality, good inflections and intonations that work to bring the characters to life and has done a reasonable effort with the male voices.
