Mercy and her sister Charity live in a twilight world, going to bed just as the sun rises. Their house remains shrouded in perpetual winter, each day unfolding exactly the same as the last. Mercy has never questioned her widowed father about the way they live and why, until one day, she wakes up to find a snowdrop on her pillow: a first sign of spring and a nod towards a new future. A meeting with the mysterious Claudius unsettles Mercy and starts her on a winding path through the family's history, unearthing clues about her mother's death and their house, frozen in time.©2005 Sarah Singleton (P)2007 Oakhill Publishing Ltd Fantastik Kurgu Science Fiction & Fantasy

I remember reading and enjoying this book some time ago but couldn't remember the details, so when I saw the audio I thought, why not.

It took me sometime to get started on it, about five attempts I think, but I just wasn't in the right frame of mind. Then I started it this morning and haven't switched the player off since. Once I got into the story I thoroughly enjoyed the slalom route it took through - I don't like the phrase plot-twists in this instance, it just doesn't seem right.

The two sisters were adorable and very well played. I always knew which character was speaking and I couldn't help it, I really disliked the nasty governess, just as I think I was meant to.

I've dropped a couple of stars because it took me a while to get started, but as I say, I don't think that was really the book's fault.

Thoroughly enjoyed it
