Story
At an off-campus party, university professor Rose Taylor is drugged, undressed, and photographed on a burner phone. In seconds her humiliation is uploaded, and millions of JPEGs are zipping like immortal wasps through the Internet. But why would someone target her? She has no vengeful exes or rival academics, no stalkers, or unhinged students. Jon Avery, the sharpest, most experienced investigator in the sheriff’s office, is determined to find out who’s behind this horrific invasion of privacy.

Story
A woman awakes in the morning to find that someone has picked her apartment’s apparently impregnable door lock and, terrifyingly, rearranged personal items, even sitting beside her while she slept. The intrusion, the police learn, is a message to the entire city of carnage and death to come. Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are brought in to investigate and soon learn that the brilliant, sociopathic intruder, who calls himself 'the Locksmith', can break through any lock or security system ever devised.

A killer is changing the rules. One murder at a time. You wake up all alone, in the middle of a forest, miles from anywhere. Beside you lie five objects - a lighter, grease, picture-frame wire, a piece of silk, a bottle of water - which you will need to use if you want to survive. You’ve been taken by the Whispering Man, and there is no escape. He makes the rules, and nobody ever gets out alive. Enigmatic investigator Colter Shaw is fighting to stop the murders. But another victim has been snatched from her family, and he’s running out of time.

Magnus "Steps" Craig is part of the elite three-man Special Tracking Unit of the FBI. Called in on special cases where his skills are particularly needed, he works as a tracker. The media dubs him "The Human Bloodhound", since Steps is renowned for his incredible ability to find and follow trails over any surface better than anyone else. But there's a secret to his success. Steps has a special ability - a kind of synesthesia - where he can see the "essence" of a person, something he calls "shine", on everything they've touched.

Good Quick Listen
I liked the plot on this one. The book had a couple of elements that are particularly interesting to me. I thought it was well done for a shorter story. The characters are mostly likable but I liked them even more based on what they did/who they were at the ending. This is not edge-of-your seat exciting but easily kept my interest.

Fast paced, Not boring
I listened to the entire story and was not bored.
It is, though , a bit silly and you may roll you eyes at some parts - but overall it is entertaining.
The end is a bit ridiculous but reflects the times why our country is divided. (fake hate crimes etc...)
It is a shame to not be able to read or listen to a story without some hate pushed onto you. The authors delusions are the scariest part of the story.
