Summary

When the dead are silent, she will be their voice...

Goth-girl mortuary technician Cassie Raven has seen thousands of dead bodies but when a drowned man knocks against the hull of her canalboat, it's a bit too close to home.

Cassie is grappling with the loss of her 'gift' - her conviction that she could sense the last thoughts of the dead - and at first the mystery man with the golden-green eyes isn't sharing his secrets.

But the case gets under her skin and when Cassie joins forces with Detective Phyllida Flyte, together they start to dredge up secrets from the past...

Yet someone is watching, someone who's ready to kill to stop those secrets coming to the surface.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Brilliant book. It's lovely to read something different. I love Cassie the name character and how ballsey but vulnerable too.
This series of books is one of my favourites. I hope there will be more!

A gripping 'who done it?'

The narrator is great. Love the voice styles and tone. There's a strong 'will they won't they' element to the story. A lot of mystery unravelling happening. I hope this isn't the finale.

I'm really enjoying this series.

Cassie is a "gifted mortuary technician who has lost her gift and her sense of purpose, until a corpse comes knocking on her door: well her hull actually, as she lives on a narrow boat.
With the seeming return of her ability she becomes invested in finding out what happened to this body in the water. In the course of her discoveries she is reacquainted with Flyte her erstwhile police officer friend. Whilst this is going on she is trying to work out what she is going to do about her relationships, with her friend with benefits, with her father, and mostly what she wants. The Paranormal vibe is quiet and fairly subtle, so don't be put off by this if it's not your thing, but it is enough to give an edge to the story and make it a bit more interesting.
There is a lot about this book that is really good but it is let down by it's somewhat implausible, although signposted denouement in respect of the police investigation. The personal stuff is left on a clever little cliff-hanger- not enough to get riled about, but enough to tempt to the next book, if there is one.
I would recommend reading this series in order as it gives far more context and background although it may stand up to being read first. It's not the best in the series but it is good enough to leave me wanting more.

Great story line and twists

This is my first Turner book and I really enjoyed the characters as well as the storyline. Also pleased I did not fully anticipate the twists. Narrator okay, but at times left a rather long pause between sequential sentences.

Captivating, intriquing and a great listen

This is the 3rd in the series, I have listened to the 1st two books and was eagerly awaiting this one. It certainly did not disappoint in any fashion. Like the 1st two books this one draws you in from the very beginning. You really become so eager to hear how the two main characters will progress, what will happen. I also love the orator of these books, she has remained the same for all three books. If you seek a great listen, one which captivates and intriques throughout would highly recommend this book. I now want a 4th in the series. She has a winning formula with the characters and the plot. Excellent.

Great third in series

I loved number 1 but was less keen on the second. The third is a real bounce back to form with a most satisfactory ending too. Can’t wait for the next.
