Summary
A good captain protects his crew. Who protects the captain?
A shuffling of cabins puts Ishmael Horatio Wang in command of the worst ship in the fleet. He learns that being captain doesn't make you infallible and that life in the captain's cabin is filled with new kinds of challenges as he tries to keep the ship moving, the crew out of trouble, and turn a profit to earn his Captain's Share.

Getting Better
Jeffrey Kafer is his usual excellent performer.
Although I felt the Solar Clipper series were entertaining, I also thought they had a weak start. Ishmael was originally a bit of a Mary Sue character. That is, he was portrayed as more successful than his peers just because the author wrote him that way. There was little real conflict or trials for him to overcome because he was bright and mastered skills easily. He was good looking and attractive to women. And unbelievably lucky.
Roll on four books and he gradually feels real. He faces defeat and frustration. By the time of Captain's Share the writing has also matured. The ancillary characters are real and not just props for the protagonist.
Thanks to Jeffrey Kafer this ship comes to life as Ishmael takes over as Captain. The Agamemnon is the worst ship in the small merchant fleet. The only bit of Mary Sue left was that the previous captain was pretty cardboard hopeless and disinterested. Put that aside and the overall tale is pretty good

Maturity at its best,
I got to admit, I was excited to get this delivered. I have so far really enjoyed this series. It's unique and has a real character driven plot.
I just wasn't so sure on this one. I mean Ismael had has troubles as usual, he's now made Captain of the worst ship in the fleet. And his usual demeanour and way of dealing with things, soon helps sort the motley crew out. But, I guess I'd have liked more person conflict, more head bashing or just something. It just seemed too easy for him.
I think that because of his maturity here, we get some real insight into his deeper worries, his marriage, his concerns for real safety of his ship. And that goes in line with things that he asks them to do and helps them with.
I won't leave spoilers, but it really is worth a listen, I think Ismael and his crew are up for lots more adventures, this whole series was more mature, with more problems, but also some very good solutions. :) Well done everyone on the Agamemnon. I look forward to more from both the author and narrator.

Steady as she goes
The journey continues. It is sad, in a way, that relationships come to an end. However, new ones are about to be forged and I continue to enjoy a brilliant series.
