Summary
Il Canto di Natale è uno dei racconti più celebri di Dickens e uno dei più famosi dedicati a quella che è la ricorrenza dei buoni sentimenti per eccellenza: il Natale. Buoni sentimenti che non animano l'avaro e insensibile protagonista, Ebenezer Scrooge, che vede la festività come una perdita di tempo e di denaro, priva di significato. Ma la sua fredda e impietosa visione del mondo sarà sconvolta dalle visite che riceverà la notte della Vigilia: l'apparizione del fantasma del defunto socio Marley, vissuto come lui nell'aridità dei sentimenti, e soprattutto il viaggio nel tempo e nello spazio attraverso il quale verrà condotto dai tre Spiriti che gli appariranno in seguito porteranno il vecchio finanziere a rivivere e a comprendere gli errori della sua vita, e a porvi infine rimedio. Dopo questa fantastica notte Scrooge imparerà il vero significato del Natale e l'importanza della bontà e della generosità. Nel suo Canto Dickens fonde la critica alle ingiustizie con la capacità di ritrarre personaggi meravigliosi, e regala una delle più commoventi storie sul Natale mai scritte.
