About this listen

Come and share the satirical, amusing and often violent misadventures of the young Candide as he searches for true love and the meaning of life. This classic satirizes religion, philosophy, and government in a decidedly playful romp.

I'm an artist so I love to be able to listen to a good story while I paint. Usually I get my Kindle reader to narrate for me, and she does her best (considering that she isn't a real person!), but she isn't as expressive as Flo Gibson and nor does she have a facility for accents (apart from an American accent).
I like the way Voltaire manages to sum up human nature in one quirky short story. The things I had found shocking and irksome during the first reading became uproariously funny to me upon hearing for a second time. I like the fact that I'm still thinking about the story two days later.
I like her expressiveness. At first I wondered why there seemed to be a hint of Irish or Scottish in the voices she gave to some of the characters but later I understood that the accents were representative of any optimist, philosopher, servant, baron etc... from any time or land.
II enjoyed it so much that I'm going to hear it again - just in case I missed anything!
