About this listen

Are you a working mother who feels frazzled and frenetic? This book is for you! Research shows that working mothers experience up to 40% more stress and that women’s happiness has been declining since the 1970s.

HOW DO WE FIX THIS?

Backed by compelling research and packed with actionable suggestions, this groundbreaking book answers the burning questions of working mothers today: Why do so many mothers feel chronically guilty? What actions can women take to improve their happiness? What changes do we need from society to improve women’s lives? Does working outside the home make mothers happier? Is part-time work the answer, or does it bring its own problems? What advice should we give to our children?

In a relatable and engaging way, Giselle explores society’s failed promise to women that they can ‘have it all’ and offers both hope and practical solutions to today’s work-life balance dilemma. Most importantly, she provides working mothers with some much-needed reassurance: YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Great book! This is a great read/listen as a working mother. Made me ponder about what contributes to my happiness and rethink my work-life balance. I like that the author is very thorough while providing summaries of each chapter as well as a chapter devoted to « solutions ». The quality of the recording is also really good… I just love listening to her very pleasant voice.

Very insightful and engaging

Oh, this was such a great listen. I went with the audiobook, and it felt like sitting with a friend who finally puts words to the things you have been carrying around for years. It was relatable in a way that made me feel seen. The ideas are thoughtful, grounded, and so clearly well researched, but what really got me were the moments that hit right in the heart. There were times I felt that sudden whomp in the chest, recognizing the parallels to my own life, the crossroads, the choices, the judgement, and the quiet ways we learn to settle without even noticing.

In the end, this book made me feel less alone in the complicated reality of being a woman today, constantly trying to find her place while pushing back against systems that were never built for us in the first place. And I loved the touch of humour she brings in, just enough to soften the heaviness and remind you that self discovery, even when it hurts, can also be light, human, and hopeful.

Must read / listen - relatable, progressive…
