Awful reading

A decent history of Augustan. Unfortunately the reading is awful: names mispronounced; read without feeling or understanding; and an irritating tinny quality to the voice. Who would have chosen this reader?

Where are all the good reviews coming from?

Linear, dry telling of this history which should instead enthuse. Mechanical narration from a narrator who seems quite unfamiliar with a lot of the unusual Latin names and words. Bizarre choice of language - grating to hear Caesar's 'Mom and Dad' discussed. Didn't get past the first few minutes.

Dreadful narration

Please be sure to check out other performances by Peter Prova as the performance is really terrible (shocked at the other reviews) and I can honestly say doing this should be enough for you to rather go for the Kindle version if you are hell-bent on this book. There is also a LOT of repetition - literally the same sentences word for word.

Appalling narration

Couldn’t get past the appalling narration which sounds like a computer generated voice (although don’t think it is). Unfinished due to this. I wNt my money back!

Narrator sounds like a screen reader

I have tried to get into this book as it seems to provide a detailed background but the narration sadly makes this impossible.

A little disappointing

I enjoyed the retelling of the story, even if the language used was a little colloquial for my taste. The reader though, I really did not enjoy. The text sounded as if he was reading for the first time! A disservice to the book. Prova sounds as if he stumbles over pronounciation, and a distinct lack of real engagement with the book. Pretty monotonous in tone and read too quickly for relaxing and absorbing the information.

Do not waste your money.

This is a terrible production and the audio book skips all the time. suddenly jumping to the first chapter. The narrator is very monotonous also and it makes it very difficult to listen to.

horrible narrator

Was really looking forward to listening to this book. However the narrator is terrible. He makes it impossible to listen to this book. The absolute worst I've come across on Audible. It's a mystery to me how this book can be rated so high.
