Poor sequel - major disappointment

I was looking forward to this book but it's a massive let down. The lean start up felt original whereas this feels like some cheap 1990s 'change' management book you find in airport book shops.

The idea of bringing the agile thinking into corporate world sounded like a good premise for a follow up book but the story descends into the usual cliche corporate fad talk of: 'buy in' ...'transformation' and limp diagrams.

There's no insights in this book, just regurgitated 80s-90s ideas e.g. Quality circles.

Just buy the lean start up...

Pretty drawn out and repetitive... Personally think it's not needed as it is not as good as the Lean start up.

Too repetitive

High expectations, bad experience.

It sounded a lot like “next chapter I am going to show a big secret to you” and here you are in the end, no big deal apart of this idea of “the entrepreneur function”

An important and timely book.

Digital Transformation is hard. Most organisation, assisted by a parasitic consultancy industry, do a poor job at it. In my experience digital transformation is typically an exercising checkbox management and short term thinning which offers no real lasting change or response to the rise of the digital native organisations which are disrupting a lot of big organisations.

The Startup way is an antidote this. Reis presents a well thought out and explained manifesto for applying the lessons of the lean startup to organisation across multiple industries.

The focus on value based analytics is highly welcome and address the deficiencies in how people have applied the lessons of Lean Startup. (Despite Ries spending a lot of time on this in TLS).

Very good read.

Really not what I was expecting

The Lean Startup is amazing, 100% recommended reading. This? not so much.

It's interesting and story kept me engaged, however when it comes to practicality of implementing this in a Software organization, I don't think it will work. Maybe this book is more suitable for non-tech organizations, or more traditional tech companies that have failed other means to become more "Agile".

If you're just interested in a good story telling, then you might enjoy it.

Please label chapters!!

I’d love to be able to jump through Audiable chapters of a book, but they have no title which makes this impossible. Please fix this

Far too focused on GE

Felt like the majority of the book was about 1 single corporate - GE, which the author worked with. Would have liked a much more diverse set of examples.

The world needs this book

Lean Startup planted the idea that it’s concepts apply to all forms of organisation, but didn’t show us how. In the Startup Way, change-makers in big organisations are given a language and supporting material to make long-term sustainable innovation viable. Hoping to apply this very soon.
