"A must read for every pastor"

This book is rich with wisdom and practical advice. It is up close and personal in the real life of pastoral ministry so it is extremely relevant. But be warned. This book will challenge you personally and calls for change in the culture, practice and expectations in typical evangelical church leadership. If you are serious about cultivating a personal transforming relationship with Christ that fuels your life and leadership. This book is for you.

    "Great book, but......."

His breakdown of the Sabbath is not totally accurate. The Father wants us to commune with Him with no restraints. He also designated, specifically the observed seventh day to be hallowed and special to Him and us. It's not 'your' Sabbath or 'my' Sabbath, it's THE Sabbath. I understand that Paul did not want anyone to be burdened by strict legalism to prove their allegiance to the Father, just as Christ demonstrated. Once you start to understand the Father's will, you will start to understand and wish to align with His way. Sabbath should be observed and respected on the seventh day, as it was made for everyone and was made special AT CREATION. Since the Father hallowed it at the very beginning and Christ made sure to uphold it while He was here, should alert us to how important it is to the Father, that we remember and fulfill His clear intent. The Sabbath has ready been changed and devalued enough.
I do agree on everything else on the breakdown of Sabbath and the content in this book.

    "Helpful content, needs slower narration"

I liked the content and it gave me things to think about within myself.
My issue with the narration may just be with the editing. It often seemed like there was no pause in between chapters, headings, stanzas.
At times it was hard to relate with the stories they told because I am in a different situation than they are.

    "Even @ 67"

I recently turned 67 and have exploring EQ for the last 2 years. I read EH Church when it came out, but it got lost in the busyness of ministry. Enter EHS and now EHL. So helpful in processing both past issues and current setting. The last section on succession/transition was extremely helpful. Those heading for the exit sign and those who will take our place would do well to read and integrate this wisdom into their own process.

    "Emotionally Healthy Leader"

While the title of this book is intriguing, its content is not original. It IS well organized and, at times, thoughtful. It is primarily a narrative of the author's experience as a pastor of a NYC church which makes the information somewhat polarizing and exclusive to church work and hard to apply to any other vocation. Overall, I learned from it, but it took some digging through a lot of redundancy and "Christian" wordiness.

This is a great book to challenge you keep things in the proper balance, keep relationships healthy and strong, and often by doing the things that are hard but that we know that we should do.
