Publisher's Summary

In his nearly 30 years of teaching leadership, John Maxwell has encountered this question again and again: How do I apply leadership principles if I'm not the boss? It's a valid question that Maxwell answers in The 360-Degree Leader. You don't have to be the main leader, asserts Maxwell, to make significant impact in your organization. Good leaders are not only capable of leading their followers but are also adept at leading their superiors and their peers. Debunking myths and shedding light on the challenges, John Maxwell offers specific principles for Leading Down, Leading Up, and Leading Across. 360-Degree Leaders can lead effectively, regardless of their position in an organization. By applying Maxwell's principles, you will expand your influence and ultimately be a more valuable team member.

    "Fantastic Read"

This book applies to everyone because it addresses how to lead people from above, below, and next to you. It's a very holistic approach to managing people like your boss, your co-workers, and your underlings. Read it and you'll be more effective.

"Leaders will want their employees to read this"

This book has some great material within. I have read a number of books about leadership over the past couple of years, and I believe this one to have a lot of the important material from each placed into one book. In addition, this book gives good tips on how to work with other ambitious people and still succeed, as well as how to really help your superiors in a way that helps you and your organization. This book is great for anyone who wants to succeed as a professional

"should be called 360 degree male leader"

after the first couple chapters I gave up on this book. every example of a good leader is male, the boss is always referred to as a "he". For women this author highlights the former head of HP as someone full of hubris who didn't know she was about to get booted, his adminstrative assistant who, if she can't get a quick answer out of him needs to do more of her homework first, and a wife from the Bible as an example of someone who knew her place and was able to approach her husband (a king) to free her people without getting herself killed (that was his example of a woman leading from the middle successfully.. I'm not making this up. I wish I were). I stopped listening at that point.

"If you have any common sense this book won't help"

I mostly feel this is a book of common sense platitudes. Too superficial to be of use to anyone with a heart or a brain. In addition, the audio book only reads half the text and skipped the only interesting parts which are the anecdotes.

    "How to lead"

The book is excellent. Many anecdotes and what real leadership is. One of the very few audio books I've listened to many many times. Well worth the listen.
