    "More than Self-Disicpline"

    I've read many books on time management, goal setting and self-discipline. The onus of these books is often 'just take action and do it!' And when you don't live up to these standards, you feel deflated and think that it was your inability to apply this new habit/system. But perhaps that system wasn't for you personally? This book applies a mindfulness approach to self-discipline, which I felt was refreshing. The biggest take away I got was that we should be kinder to ourselves. And no amount of punishment will make us more disciplined.

    An informative (yet entertaining) listen which really helped me properly understand self-discpline a lot better and really assisted on me sticking to some good new habits, breaking some bad old traits and generally developing more self-discipline in my life, something I had previously struggled with at times.

    Would you consider the audio edition of Self-Discipline to be better than the print version?

    I enjoyed this book, and part of the initial pull was the short length of it! I've often found many productivity and improvement books are a couple of hours too long, but this was a great length<br/><br/>Must admit I had heard some of the stuff before in Mini-Habits, another great book, but this gave some good thoughts and takeaways

    if you've read a few of this sort of book, you aren't going to find anything particularly new here, but you are going to find some very good advice delivered in useful, logical, easily digested chunks. if you haven't read anything like this before then this is a great book to buy.

    I have had major problems with procrastination, disorganization and self discipline in general for quite a long time. I could never apply myself to anything properly. I've dropped out of two night classes, started and dropped several different hobbies and could never seem to stick at anything. I'd read a lot of books on self discipline, but I found them little to no use. The advice seemed to boil down to just suck it up and do it.

    This book has been an absolute lifechanger for me and very different to anything I've read in this field before. The author doesn't make any wild promises about changing your life instantly or that some particular secret only her book has will change everything. It emphasises small, incremental change and building good habits. Those habits go on to be the foundation you build real success on. It was very clear and very practical. The difference between this and other books is that the author has obviously worked in this field in a professional capacity. It contains the kind of realistic advice that only comes from years of doing this in real life.

    One of my first good habits was making 15 minutes each day to listen to this book. It's very well laid out and doesn't overwhelm at any point. By making small positive changes and building on them, I have seen a tangible difference in my life. I'm not totally there but I've achieved more than I thought possible at the start of this year.

    I'd definitely recommend this book for anyone wanting to change and who is realistic about putting the necessary work in.

    Where does Self-Discipline rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    This year, the best! I feel like i understand (and therefore am able to apply it better) self-discipline so much better. Very easy to understand, flowed well, great value for money.

    Real-world. Convincing. Positive


    Which scene was your favorite?

    My favorite chapter was the one that talked about ways to set goals and how to make them achievable. It was very practical and easy to follow.


    What did you learn from Self-Discipline that you would use in your daily life?

    One key learning that I took from this book is knowing that getting perspective on time is important in goal achievement. By being smart with goal setting, breaking bad habits is easier done. When the goals are realistic, time bound and small, you have a higher chance to succeed which helps increase self confidence and determination to do bigger things.

    Every year, we all make New Year's resolutions. These plans mostly do not see the beginning of February. This book addresses how we can make better goals and have the self-discipline to see them through. You will learn the reasons why you find it hard to achieve personal goals and breaking bad habits. Excuses and procrastination are two major things you will learn to curb from your life if you want to make better goals. <br/><br/>You will also learn to stop playing the blame game and other bad habits that prevent effectiveness in your personal life. When it comes to making good habits that help you complete your set goals, the book offers a lot of tips and help. Effective goals must be specific, measurable, achievable, recordable and time bound. The author goes deep into how to make goals that can be achieved and getting the necessary motivation, self-confidence and discipline to follow through.<br/><br/>I highly recommend this book to everyone because it will help you improve as a person no matter which sector you find yourself in. The advice and tips are very easy to follow. The book is also well narrated and will not take too much of your time.

    No characters, it is not a fiction book, but the narration was excellent.

    "Awesome for helping with bad habits"

    This book is another hit by Jennifer Alison. For those of us that have some issues with focusing on completing our goals, Jennifer has some fantastic tips to help us along. They are presented by Charles Wells in such a way that makes them seem doable. Part of the reason why I have never bothered with following self help advice before, is because it never seemed realistically doable. These tips are very helpful, and seem as though they have been put in place by someone that fully understands where someone that is a natural procrastinator is coming from.

    Jennifer Alison is able to get the message across that small goals are important to starting a bigger project. When I started focusing my mind like this, it was much easier for me to actually see the bigger picture. I was able to get one or two tasks done a day, but when I would add those up, I could see my progress. The book was able to get me to change my focus.

    The book is written in a way that helps people with focusing issues focus. The different habits that are suggested are given in such a way that they are easy to follow and understand. this makes it easier to not get overwhelmed when you're doing them. It is also suggested that you take things slowly so that you don't find yourself taking on too much and then giving up before you finish. Since it does this I had no problems finishing the book then going back and following the steps that I needed to change some things. I would take one at a time and make sure that I was able to finish them before going on to the next one. It also helps you to focus and realise that not everything is going to be changed instantly. Things like this take time.

    I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking for tips on how to change their focus. Even if you wouldn't say you have a problem finishing tasks, you can still use a lot of the tips in this book to make your life a bit more efficient. Another wonderful title by Jennifer Alison.

    Not one of your over-the-shelf cliche self-help books. This one really helps. It accounts for a simple yet highly efficacious approach: Habits make a man perfect. The book deviates from the traditional paradigm of discipline as a mere "set of rules" to follow and presents a new perspective. It is our habits deeply enrooted within us that determine our success rates. These habits can be molded, albeit with a lot of hard work. Self-discipline, in turn, becomes the taming of these habits. Once these habits begin to settle, our path becomes clearer and our goals achievable.
