This book is about how to set up a business; information is extremely basic and very out of date such as, get a computer, get staff, do your taxes, get insurance, do marketing, communicate with clients. I found absolutely no useful information about the subject matter of import/ export and I kept on waiting for the writer to finally get to the point. The title is misleading.

Please do not buy this book. It teaches you nothing about the import/export business. It is basically a bad intro to business book. For example, the book spends 12 minutes talking about computers and processing speed and how you need to select the best computer you can afford blah blah blah. The book also spends about 10 minutes describing how to set up your home office. Seriously, are we trying to teach children here or adults who may want to actually know something useful. The bottom line is that if you were hoping to learn something about regulations or the ins and outs of international trade then this is the completely wrong book for you. As another set of minor annoyances, the "Smart Tip" voice guy speaks in a ridiculous gay lispy upper Midwest voice. That and his "Smart Tips" are worthless and basically common sense. The "Beware" voice guy sounds like he is chewing on his tongue and his "Beware" comments are about as equally worthless as his "Smart Tip" companion's. I wish it would let me rate it ZERO stars.

I was looking for information about the import export business. 2 of the 5 chapters addressed this. The remaining content was about how to set up and manage a business. If I wanted a business start up book I would have purchased a book that specifically dealt with that topic. I was disappointed in the lack of import/export content.

What would have made How to Start an Import/Export Business better?
Put some practical information in it
Would you ever listen to anything by Entrepreneur Magazine again?
Any additional comments?
While there is some useful information in this book, I felt like this book is so dumb down and over generalized that I really did not come away with any practical knowledge.
The overall concept of the book and other books in this series is fine, the first part is specific, to the book topic, the second part is regurgitated general advice on how to start a business. While I don’t think any of the advice is bad per say, I just think that for most people the information is too basic and general that you won’t find this book useful at all.
Another gripe about this book is that, while they over generalize and sort of simplify the import / export the process they at the same time throw in every definition they can to make it sound so complicated. It sort of a lets cover every term and generally explain it but that doesn’t leave much use for the listener as there is little practical explanation in this book.
