Publisher's Summary

In How to Lead When You’re Not in Charge, author and pastor Clay Scroggins explains what is needed to be a great leader—even when you answer to someone else. Drawing from biblical principles and his experience as a megachurch pastor, Clay will help you nurture your vision and cultivate influence, even when you lack authority in your organization. Every leader, young or old, resonates with the dead-end feeling of not being in charge. Too often the lack of authority paralyzes leaders, leaving them believing they must wait to be in charge until they can lead. One of the greatest myths of leadership is that you must be in charge in order to lead. Great leaders don't buy it. Great leaders lead with or without the authority to lead. Because every road of leadership forks at the intersection of authority and influence, learning to cultivate influence without authority is foundational to navigating culture today.

    "horrible book in all aspects."

I couldn't read past the 2nd chapter. horrible voice. looks like the author is trying to educate us in Christianity not leadership. should be in the religious shelf. you should be better off with a bible.

    "Great book"

Not your typical leadership book and that's what I loved about it. Clay gives us examples of how to lead everyday regardless of title.

    "Good message but REALLY preachy"

I appreciated the message of this book, but I couldn't stick with it long enough to get any technique ideas for the apparent point of the book. That is because a few chapters in he starts to go deep into preaching fundamentalist religious views. Unfortunate. By the way I am Christian.

    "Great book for every leader!"

This book offers keen insight, strong inspiration and practical steps to being the best leader you can be from an assistant position. Every leader, regardless of whether they are the leader or assistant would benefit from this book. This would also be an excellent book to read as a team.

"Should be specified for teen audiences"

This was well written and well performed, but so elementary I couldn't get past the first couple of hours.
The summary I read beforehand failed to mention that the author was a pastor, and certainly didn't mention that the author had a background in youth ministry. The overall tone of the book was reminiscent of every other youth sermon that tries too hard to be relevant to pop-culture and entertain an audience that would rather be elsewhere. I downloaded the book by choice because the subject matter interests me, yet I only got about 20 minutes of value amidst two and a half hours of fluff before I had to turn it off.
This book would be fine for high school students who have never actually taken leadership in anything. It's not the author's fault that the foreword and advertising were completely misleading.
