Prosperity. It's one of the most dividing words in the church. Some pastors use it to tell their congregations that God will make them all rich, rich, rich! Others spurn the word and insist that true Christlikeness is found in forsaking all worldly riches and possessions. The truth is, both are right - and both are wrong. With refreshing honesty, humor, and keen insight, best-selling author and pastor Kris Vallotton mines the Scriptures in an eye-opening study of what the Bible really says about money, poverty, riches, and wealth.

Ideas a bit stretched at time
The writer quiet often stretches the Bible account to suit the ideas he wants to share.
Just to give one example, when referring to the Israelites traversing the sea; the writer says that the Israelites had to first walk in water and then the water divided. This is completely in contradiction with the account as described in Exodus 14:21,22.
Although the book brings good ideas I learned from, the contradictions with the Holy Books by the writer are quiet upsetting as well as unnecessary.
I put 3 stars but wonder if it should be less given the title of the book by someone who should know better given his title while losing credibility as these errors accumulate.

Poor use of logic
It claims to show the ‘secrets’ of the bible but is simply a plea to embrace American capitalism with no or only the most tentative links to the bible and Jewish culture. For example, It declares that as ambition helps people make money, it must be God’s will and that without ambition no one would work at all and society would collapse. Naturally, no biblical justification however true or false it may be.

Not acceptable content
Rabi Daniel equates money with God or mentions that just like God is everywhere money is also everywhere.
For a bible believing Christian, God is the ultimate Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent and there can never be something that can be equated with God especially money.
Rabi Daniel’s methodology of drawing a parallel between God and money seems to be contradicting the very nature of God mentioned in the Bible.
Hence the content might be offensive to any bible believing Christian who believes that God is “I AM that I AM” and that no one can ever be equated to God Who is the Ultimate King.
I wanted a book to know how to earn, spend, invest, save and give money biblically and didn’t expect a book that would equate money with God Almighty.

Simply inspirational!
I was an instant fan of this book. It's easy to read , the chapters are not too long and the narration is engaging.
The real draw for me was the insight into 'ancient Jewish wisdom' as the author puts it.
I've haven't had so many 'aha' moments in single book.
The lessons will challenge you with varying degrees depending on your initial mindset but I encourage you to come with an open mind, it's a powerful collection of wisdom that goes far beyond business.
I look forward to the second read as there is much to put into action!

Very similar to Thou Shall Prosper
Most of the content of this book is the same as another book by Lapin, "Thou Shall Prosper". Although there is some variation, maybe about 10% new material, 40% slightly re-written material, and 50% just about the same. That said, if you haven't read Thou Shall Prosper, I very highly recommend you get one of the two. I personally liked the narrator in Thou Shall Prosper better. These are not ordinary business books, but really present a different world view about money.

Ancient Jewish Wisdom, Success God's Way
If you could sum up Business Secrets from the Bible in three words, what would they be?
Truth
Any additional comments?
Stop paying attention to all of those cute/inspirational memes and sayings that are posted all over the internet; they are so much rubbish. Listen to the wisdom handed down to, and through, the Jews. They have the successful history to warrant your attention.
It overwhelmed me to learn about the words and concepts that are not, and have never been, a part of God's language of Hebrew, and therefore are not things that we should be attaining to. For example, there is no word in Hebrew for retirement; God never intended for us to work and work for years so that we could eventually hopefully one day "relax" and do nothing or whatever we want. And there is no Hebrew word for "winning money" (do you lottery players hear that?). The Hebrew language teaches to earn money, not gamble for it or hope to win it. And the ancient Jewish wisdom (a new favorite phrase of mine) tells you how to be successful. It seems ironic, but the book teaches that you can be someone who works for a non-profit organization that helps people, but that you are always trying to get people to donate money ... OR ... you can be someone who is extremely financially successful and help more people in a much bigger way by having the large finances to do so. At one point, the book asks, and discusses, the question: Who has truly helped more people? Mother Teresa, or Bill Gates?

Bad philosophy, short on theology
I had high hopes for this book, knowing the Bible has a great deal to say about the practical matters of life. However, I just couldn't keep listening to this. There were two instances that stood out to me that really made me question the author's biblical view and moral view. First, he used divorce as an example of change and how change can be positive. He said that he often encourages couples who are not compatible to go ahead and divorce and accept the change. What? The second is his ambiguous understanding of basic honesty, saying you should lie to a friend if it spares their feelings. Once again, what? Thou shalt not lie? While the book may usage some good advice for business, I would prefer to find that advice from someone I can trust.

Solid advise and insights, recommended!
Where does Business Secrets from the Bible rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would rank this pretty high in both business and bible topics. I'm not Jewish but I still enjoyed his sharing of the many interesting elements of that faith.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Business Secrets from the Bible?
Even when I didn't agree with his biblical position, he did such a great job presenting it that I had to respect his viewpoints!

Good major points but not completely Biblically correct
Bad points: regarding Moses & Abraham as just guys who happened by chance to do the things God called them to do. Also, favors for people should be considered an act of giving and not expecting in return.
Good points: Money is not evil. The love or focus on it no matter the cost is evil. Giving money should always be part of our lives. Giving ahead is a good concept/instruction.

Dull and unscriptural
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disgust
Any additional comments?
I am not a Jewish scholar but I do know a lot about the Bible. This was not only dull beyond belief but wasn't even true to the Bible. While the Bible has a great deal to say about finances this book put finances on a pedestal and considered people unspiritual if they don't get all they can. I enjoy my money and I praise God for everything I have but this book was just too far out there. More like a Jewish "Name it and Claim it" book, total garbage.

I have to say what I heard was not what I was expecting. What I learned is invaluable. Though mostly viewed from a male perspective it is relative to everyone. The lessons are very well founded and I actually took a lot away from this text.
