Summary

Nautilus award winning Burning Woman is a breath-taking and controversial woman’s journey through history - personal and cultural - on a quest to find and free her own power.

Uncompromising and all-encompassing, Pearce uncovers the archetype of the burning women of days gone by - Joan of Arc and the witch trials, through to the way women are burned today in cyber bullying, acid attacks, shaming and burnout, fearlessly examining the roots of feminine power - what it is, how it has been controlled, and why it needs to be unleashed on the world during our modern burning times.

Burning Woman explores:

  • Burning from within: A woman’s power - how to build it, engage it, and not be destroyed by it.
  • Burning from without: The role of shame, and honour in the time-worn ways the dominant culture uses fire to control the feminine.
  • The darkness: Overcoming our fear of the dark, and discovering its importance in cultivating power.

This incendiary text was written for women who burn with passion, have been burned with shame, and who at another time, in another place, would have been burned at the stake. With contributions from leading burning women of our era: Isabel Abbott, ALisa Starkweather, Shiloh Sophia McCloud, Molly Remer, Julie Daley, Bethany Webster...

A classic

I love the book and I had been waiting for the audio book to arrive. Because the book is narrated by the author, it takes this classic work to another level with so much more depth and meaning. It's not for the faint hearted. If you're easily triggered or aren't happy with women connecting with themselves on a deep level, maybe this book is not for you (as the occasional 1 star review on the paperback shows). If you do want to connect with the real you, especially if you haven't found her yet but know she's there somewhere, this book is what you need. Lucy has a way of saying the unsayable that is exactly what you felt in your heart and body, but couldn't find the words. This is what makes her work so powerful. Highly recommended.

Fiery encouragement

I love this book. It’s both a poetic reclaiming of the history/herstory of women and fire and an invitation to a personal journey of discovery, burning away all the masks the world has given me until I stand burning with fierce passion for my authentic life. I wondered what it would be like to hear it as an audiobook. I usually prefer listening to the author read as it can give insight into their meaning and with Lucy Pearce’s clear and expressive voice I heard Burning Woman speak with new depth and resonance. As if I had spent the time sat with a beloved old friend whispering in my ear all the things I needed to remember about myself. Highly, highly recommended. Also a great introduction to the idea of the divine feminine for the curious.

Simply Outstanding

Congratulations sister Lucy, this is a must read for women of all ages. It is a book, which can be such a catalyst for deep transformation, especially for women who grew up in the post war era. There are women in their 60's, 70's, 80's who burn inside and don't know why. These women, silenced and undermined by patriarchal ideas have shrunk back, witheld truth...and yet, deep within they are so alive. Ahhhhh Lucy Pearce you have done a great job. I wish we could have a conversation about the liberation of the post war generation, and that, I believe is important for men too. Men need to be liberated from patriarchal ideas too. Many blessings Charlotte Common
