Summary

A skeleton is found in a shallow grave in the churchyard. But this was not an official burial.

The victim was murdered decades ago. At the same time, Detective Nikki Galena and her team are investigating the brutal slaying of local businesswoman Madeline Prospero. She was a member of an exclusive and secretive drinking club called The Briar Patch. But they've got no suspects and no one is telling them the truth.

Meanwhile, the buried skeleton leads them on a trail to the village of Quintin Eaudyke. This is a troubled place. In the late 70s and 80s a reign of terror and abuse was unleashed on the close-knit population. When more women from The Briar Patch come under threat, Nikki faces a race against time to stop more murders.

Full of twists and turns, this is a crime thriller that will keep you in suspense until its heart-stopping conclusion.

Always a good plot

She rights good plots and good, identifiable characters. As other people have mentioned, there are too many miss-pronunciations of common words. I am also get to hear a proper South Lincolnshire or Peterborough accent in any of these productions. The editing can sometimes be quite slapdash too, with words cut off of delited.

A brilliant, but brutal part of a great series

Joy Ellis continues to to produce great thrillers and this is no exception. The killer is her most brilliant and brutal creation yet and as always, the is compelling - both the crime and the emotional connections between Nikki, Joseph and the rest of the team.

Truly Special

I loved this tale, as I have all of Joy Ellis's so far... the final solution remained a mystery to me throughout and the complexities of the storyline all fitted together without ever raising any questions in relation to logistics or believability... A particular moment right at the very end captured my heart when the discussion turned to robins...being messengers from souls that have passed over... I had not heard this before and yet I had an incredible experience years ago, just months after my mother died suddenly and unexpectedly on the other side of the world... which ties in perfectly with this theory... Thank you, Joy Ellis, especially for this little closing dialogue that validates something that means so much to me!

Keeps you gripped

Another book keeps you gripped so many twist and turns and almost to the end as to who is the killer
Once again the voice had so many characters to deal with A great performance.

Excellent story, but some offensive content

I've been enjoying this series and liked this story; however, I cannot imagine why the author thought it was okay to have a beloved character refer to a country as a "cesspool country". It was not what I expected from him and it made me question the character of the author.
