About this listen

It's time to leave college and the closet behind.

Nathan Rhodes has put hockey first for most of his life, but as graduation looms, he has a different goal in mind. He needs to come out and reclaim his first love. If only Caleb will believe him....

Theater geek Caleb Stockwell gave up on love when his boyfriend chose the closet over being with an openly bisexual guy. Now, he hides his heartbreak behind a string of casual hookups. He loves the drama on stage, but he’s done with the drama of Nathan Rhodes. For good.

Nathan is determined to right the wrongs of four years ago, but the clock is ticking.

One month until he and Caleb go their separate ways. One month to take a final shot at winning Caleb's heart back.

Win or lose, everything is on the line.

This story is so full of raw emotion. Nathan the high school hockey star and Caleb the nerd who excels at theater. So different from each other but there is an attraction that draws them together. And since both are young situations happen beyond their control that causes so much hurt.

Later toward the end of their college years Nathan decides he is tired of hiding who he is and he has regret for what he did to Caleb in high school so he tries to apologize to Caleb but Caleb is having none of it. Caleb was too hurt by Nathan to listen or let his heart open again.

The narrator, James Edward Jones did such a good job on this story I could feel the hurt and pain of these two. At first I was not sure about listening to another “hockey” story but this turned out to be so much more. I now can’t wait to hear more of this series.

Felt the raw emotion

Story: Well, the blurb for this story was very enticing, but I honestly thought I knew from the start how the story is going to develop. Glad to say I was wrong! I won't tell much, not spoil the fun, but I will say, that both the plot and the characters were top notch! The narration style was very good and it was a pleasure to read!
Narration: Very good performance. The voices fit the characters really well.

I really enjoyed listening to this from start to finish. I love stories where there is a history between the characters and this certainly had that. The story was about protecting your heart and vulnerability and a lot of connection. It shows there are always two sides to every story and it is about overcoming fear and taking a chance on love. It was a good story line and the narrator did an amazing job too.

So good

This is a sweet, second chance romance which reflects themes of forgiveness and maturity. This was book one for the Midwest series, and I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the upcoming books. I thought that Caleb and Nathan’s story was developed and expressed really well throughout the story. The narration was definitely a value-add. James Edward Jones is a new-to-me narrator and he did a terrific job of bringing these characters to life and imparting the right emotion to the story. I would definitely read and listen to this one; the audiobook makes this into a completely enjoyable experience.

This book is about growing up, forgiveness, and second chances for first loves. It’s touching to see how hard someone is willing to work when it comes to love. Real love is worth fighting for, but will love be enough? ❤️👨🏼‍🤝‍👨🏻🎧📚

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were relatable and likable. It was easy to get drawn into the story and root for Nathan and Caleb. I also wanted to smack Micah. I understand his position, but he could be less of a jerk about it. Fear makes people be a little crazy, though. ❤️👨🏼‍🤝‍👨🏻🎧📚

This was book one for the Midwest series, and it set a great tone for the upcoming books. I’m looking forward to reading the other guys’ stories as well. This book can be read as a standalone, as it did not end in a cliffhanger. The author did a fantastic job telling Caleb and Nathan’s story. I enjoyed the flashback chapters. It was a bonus getting to see what happened instead of it just being discussed in a conversation. It made it easier to be emotionally involved with them. I really felt for both of them. Being in high school is tough on its own, but dealing with bullies and having to hide your true self makes it worse. ❤️👨🏼‍🤝‍👨🏻🎧📚

James Edward Jones is a new to me narrator. I was pleasantly surprised, because I get nervous about trying new narrators. His voice sounds so familiar, yet slightly different. I can’t place it. His voice is enjoyable to listen to, and he did a great job with the characters. I’m always happy about knowing who’s talking when, and he did a great job at keeping in character for each. I’d gladly listen to his narration again. ❤️👨🏼‍🤝‍👨🏻🎧📚🎙

This audiobook was extremely enjoyable and I’d definitely recommend it.
