About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Together they’ll restore a broken kingdom or burn it to the ground . . .

In a kingdom long divided, Lyra Bien intends to live a quiet life to avoid the attention of magic-obsessed King Damir.
Until Roark Ashwood, the monarch’s silent but irresistibly handsome soldier, invades her village and uncovers Lyra’s secret.
That she is a melder . . .
Gifted in the three magical crafts – bone, blood and soul – a melder is highly sought after. But there is a price: their magic is also the seed of their destruction.
Forced to reveal her ability, Lyra is immediately claimed by Roark for the king, to be his next melder.
Now the captive of this brooding soldier, she must find a way to escape. But could Roark himself be the key to her freedom?
What neither of them realises, is that a dangerous truth lies beneath everything.
Together they will have to choose to stand against all they know – or face a darker destiny . . .

The story is incredible. Such a beautiful telling of a complex and interesting magic world. The characters are well-written and you really are taken on a journey that you want to continue!! It keeps you guessing and surprised you throughout. 5 stars for sure & will certainly be listening to the next one.

Oh, also, LOVED the narrators. The bar for fantasy narration is pretty low imo, but I think they really brought the book to life. I’m honestly going to look for them again when choosing a book. Loved it.

Everyone should be talking about this book.

Tap Tap Tap 💗, I really enjoyed this, there are a few more Nordic inspired series with magicial elements now but it doesn't feel overdone and is still refreshing for me, this has the found family vibes I love in books by LJ Andrews and characters I can easily take to, an interesting magic system, I loved the relationship between Lyra and Roark as it follows tropes I adore and having an MMC that is silent melted me, I did figure most of the reveals before they were, but I honestly don't care, it was still an good book and I will be getting the next one when it's out, the only downside for me was the narration seemed a bit odd, Lindsey Dorcas and Will Thorne are great narrators but with one doing the narrative parts with an American accent, the character parts embracing a Nordic ish accent then as it's dual narration not doing similar accents for the same characters, a duet style or even Will Thorne narrating the whole thing I think might have worked a little better,

A bit of a bury storyline needs more details and very rushed end with expected and unexpected twists the extra “ romantic “ bits to cumulated together

The end twist
