Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of Broken Heart by Tim Weaver, read by Joe Coen and John Chancer.

A woman drives to a beautiful headland overlooking the Devon coast. She is never seen again, and no trace of where she went can be found. The woman's sister calls missing persons investigator David Raker. As Raker tries to find her whereabouts - fearing the worst - he learns that she was recently widowed from a reclusive film director.

It seems that, going through her husband's belongings, she found a secret so dark and shocking that it forced her to leave her entire life behind. Chasing the truth will consume Raker and place him in grave danger....

Joining the dots

This is the first time I have heard a story with two narrators. It worked, but it took time to reason and understand why. It was much the same with the whole story too. It was a bit difficult to get the bigger picture, but gradually it began to fall into place; all the pieces of the puzzle started to become clearer. The characters were in the main a very unsympathetic bunch which made the story difficult to plough through, especially when the tale became particularly violent.

I think that by the end I was still there because I was as dogged a listener as Riker was a tracker and wanted closure on a rather unsavoury story.

It was no bed of roses, but eventually it did all make sense. Ian not sure if I would buy anymore of these books, buts there are and counter-balanced by curiosity about an unsavoury story well-told.

The worst book I have ever read !!!!

This is without doubt the worst book I have ever had the misfortune to have to listen to,the story is breathtakingly bad going off in tangents that beggar belief, the characters are so bad I thought it was a comedy, the narrators were the only part that was ok,basically it is an extremely amateurish attempt at a complex story,I have listened to other Tim weaver novels and enjoyed them, sorry but it really is that bad

Not his best

Had this been the first that I read, I don't think I would have read others. This is the fourth or fifth so I know there is a chance that the next one will return to the former standard. Maybe if I read the book instead of listening it would be better.

Boring unless you're a film noir fan

This story was overlong on detail of films and film-making and too short on actual story content. The big reveal was a big disappointment. The tale just limped along, giving the impression that the author was desperately padding out a thin story-line with boring, film-related minutiae. Hard to believe this is the same writer who gripped me with "I am missing". One to miss.

very much enjoyed the story.

I thought the story was very good, definitely kept me interested and loved the twists that I wasn't expecting.
David Raker series are fantastic, you invest in him as a detective and know that no matter what obstacles are in the way he will get to the truth.
Tim weaver is an exceptional writer.
the narration was very good also.

Tim Weaver never fails deliver......

Being a huge fan of the David Raker series I was as always looking forward to the next book. I found this a little slow a quarter way in but it soon picked up pace and I just couldn't stop listening. I couldn't of second guessed the twists that came but as always Tim Weaver delivered them matching the pace of the story as it unfolds.

Straight on to #8 now!

Another brilliant book

Gripping, twisting thriller looking back to old Hollywood as the source of dark secrets. Violence and tenderness mixed with the search for truth and justice. Tim Weaver does it again.

Time I will never get back.

I feel quite cross that I kept listening to this story as it’s time I won’t get back! It’s a very long story and the plot is beyond strange. I started off thinking it was a detective searching for a lost person. Then it became a strange delve into a dead film director’s work.

Same old

Well you certainly know what you're going to get with these David raker books. Unbelievable plots, two dimensional characters, overly dramatic narration and numerous ( really boring ) life threatening situations, which he miraculously escapes from. For some unfathomable reason, I keep listening. I've started the series so I need to finish it.
