Summary

When a body is discovered in the remote depths of the Highlands, DCI Karen Pirie finds herself in the right place at the right time. Unearthed with someone's long-buried inheritance, the victim seems to belong to the distant past - until new evidence suggests otherwise, and Karen is called in to unravel a case where nothing is as it seems.

It's not long before an overheard conversation draws Karen into the heart of a different case, however - a shocking crime she thought she'd already prevented. As she inches closer to the twisted truths at the centre of these murders, it becomes clear that she's dealing with a version of justice terrifyingly different to her own....

CHAPTER BLEED

I found the story excellent however I prefer to listen by chapter and unusually this book seemed to end chapter in the middle of the last sentence of the chapter most off putting

Thoroughly enjoyed this gripping listen

I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping listen which was the first Val McDermid book I’ve ever read/listened to. The narrator was superb and brought the characters to life. The story was beautifully set and an intriguing listen. Off to check out the authors back catalogue now.

These books just get better

I am thoroughly enjoying this series of books. I am even starting to come to terms with Karen’s unconventional and disrespectful attitude to her bosses. She gets the results even if she does ride rough shot over people at times. I’m excited as to where this new aspect of her life might be going.

Well worth the read. Val Madrid at her best.

this story set mainly in Edinburgh but with links to the beauty of Wester Ross? Our intrepid detectives take a day our two out of the metropolis to begin an investigation into a 35 year-old murder.

The unknown and therefore unsolved murder victim sets the test of investigation a hard task. The 'tecs face more opposition to their Historic Case Investigation in the unlikely guise of senior ranks.

Read and be enthralled. Thank you Val for this belter.
