Summary

A guide to investing basics by the author of Broke Millennial, for anyone who feels like they aren't ready (or rich enough) to get into the market

Millennials want to learn how to start investing. The problem is that most have no idea where to begin. There's a significant lack of information out there catering to the concerns of new millennial investors, such as:

  • Should I invest while paying down student loans?
  • How do I invest in a socially responsible way?
  • What about robo-advisors and apps - are any of them any good?
  • Where can I look online for investment advice?

In this second book in the Broke Millennial series, Erin Lowry answers those questions and delivers all of the investment basics in one easy-to-digest package. Tackling topics ranging from common terminology to how to handle your anxiety to retirement savings and even how to actually buy and sell a stock, this hands-on guide will help any investment newbie become a confident player in the market on their way to building wealth.

Critic reviews

"A great intro for newbies to the terribly complicated financial world, mixed with personal advice on how to handle debt and emulate the mindset of the wealthy. A wonderful resource." (Danielle Town, author of New York Times best seller Invested and founder of The Invested Practice)

“A new book about money that teens and millennials will actually read.... This not only has great insights and tips about handling money, but it's written in a casual, relatable way.” (Time)

"Erin delivers exactly what she promises in this easy-to-digest, conversational book. If you're a Millennial who wants to invest but don't want a boring tome to put you to sleep, this guide gets you started without drowning you in technical jargon. 'Level Up' your money by reading this book!” (Kristy Shen, cofounder of Millennial Revolution and coauthor of Quit Like a Millionaire)

Good for complete beginners

Good book if you have ZERO idea what investing is. But if you have even the slightest understanding then this will not be for you.
It felt a bit dragged out after the first half but lots of good info worth anyway.

Much better for the American audience

This book is just what I wanted in terms of being a book about investing for complete beginners. I have learnt lots of valuable information and it’s definitely not been a waste of time. However as a person listening from the UK. I have had to cherry pick which parts of the book I can take on board vs which parts don’t have much to do with my own situation.
It’s still a good starting place though and I’m pleased Iv listened!

good read

A really good book that can help in a general sense. It gives you ideas of what you need to do and you could apply the overall principles but this a very American centric text, the mathematical examples are also very US focused, so if living in the UK, you would need to do your research on equivalents.
