Summary

"My kind of history!" says Terry Jones (Monty Python) of British History for Dummies.

Putting history into a perspective, this is an engaging, entertaining and educational trip through time, packing in equal parts fun and facts. Recently updated, British History For Dummies introduces listeners to recent events, including British actions in Afghanistan, and David Cameron's formation of Britain's first coalition Cabinet since World War II.

But don't worry - British History For Dummies doesn't skimp on the old stuff! It's a riotous, irreverent account of the people and events that have shaped Britain. Always got those kings and queens confused? Never sure what happened when? You need this audiobook. You'll hear rip-roaring stories of power-mad kings, executions, invasions, high treason, global empire-building, and forbidden love - not bad for a nation of stiff upper lips.

With more than 250 million books in print and more than 1,800 titles, For Dummies is the most widely recognized and highly regarded reference series in the world. Since 1991, For Dummies has helped millions make everything easier. For Dummies audiobooks offer listeners proven experts presenting even the most complex subjects in plain English.

Fantastic. Reminds you to be proud to be British.

Simple and well read. Very informative and clearly well researched.

Would recommend to anyone trying to brush up on history and even to those that aren't.

Spearheads you thru British History

Where does British History for Dummies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Those few I have listened to are of good quality and British History for Dummies is in the top.

What other book might you compare British History for Dummies to, and why?

I have been listening to The Great Turning Points in British history. This one is better to start with, will probably enjoy the other one more after listening to this one.

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Keeble – was your favourite?

Patronising sneering narrator

Disappointing, maybe my sense of humour is just different to the author and narrator. All a bit patronising and the narrator is very smug.
Cherry picks bits and pieces, has to only feature key incidents for sure in order to make it a manageable book, but seems to concentrate on issues to show Britain negatively, emphasised by the narrators sneering delivery.

Dummies - It really is for dummies!

I'm really into my history of Britian. However, I really didn't think I would be this simple.

very informative

I really enjoyed listening to this book all the way through. I learned many new things in splendid detail with the odd humorous comment. I was especially interested in the more modern History of Britain. This is an excellent book overall and one I intend to read again. It is very well narrated.

Very enjoyable

I had a little interest in history but having listened to this audiobook, it jogged my memory of the little bit I knew and told me a great deal I didn’t. The narration is first class and an easy listen with a little humour. Would highly recommend.

Excellent, brief, concise history

Had read the book many years ago. I was surprised how much of it I had retained. No doubt due to the well written concise format.

Must read for anyone who needs a history lesson of what made us who we are today.
