Summary

"My kind of history!" says Terry Jones (Monty Python) of British History for Dummies.

Putting history into a perspective, this is an engaging, entertaining and educational trip through time, packing in equal parts fun and facts. Recently updated, British History For Dummies introduces listeners to recent events, including British actions in Afghanistan, and David Cameron's formation of Britain's first coalition Cabinet since World War II.

But don't worry - British History For Dummies doesn't skimp on the old stuff! It's a riotous, irreverent account of the people and events that have shaped Britain. Always got those kings and queens confused? Never sure what happened when? You need this audiobook. You'll hear rip-roaring stories of power-mad kings, executions, invasions, high treason, global empire-building, and forbidden love - not bad for a nation of stiff upper lips.

With more than 250 million books in print and more than 1,800 titles, For Dummies is the most widely recognized and highly regarded reference series in the world. Since 1991, For Dummies has helped millions make everything easier. For Dummies audiobooks offer listeners proven experts presenting even the most complex subjects in plain English.

Spearheads you thru British History

Where does British History for Dummies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Those few I have listened to are of good quality and British History for Dummies is in the top.

What other book might you compare British History for Dummies to, and why?

I have been listening to The Great Turning Points in British history. This one is better to start with, will probably enjoy the other one more after listening to this one.

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Keeble – was your favourite?

A wonderful, fun & irreverent look at our history

This is a great book if you want to get to know some British history, without it being boring. Far far too long now, we have had to listen to stuffy history told to us, and now we have this book.

I have read many - may - books on British history, so I knew much of what was in this book, but then, it isn't written for me as much as those wanting to get started on the subject. Having said that, I found this a fun book, and one which was interesting. It even had me laughing out loud at times, which is never a good idea when listening in bed at night.

Give it a go, I'm sure you'll love it (unless you're one of those stuffy historians).

Very poorly written and not for dummies

Absolutely not for dummies. No story, no people behind. Pure boring of who killed who for centuries. Impossible to memorise or reflect.

Way to much information

I found my head spinning half way through. Good book. Far to complicated in audio book form.

historical and punnie

If you like British hummer this book is for you. Full of facts, puns and has the feeling like your at the pub hanging with the professor. It's a book that is not in order but rather more like a conversation. Make sure to read though a few times.

I enjoyed it

I'm a keen history reader, and would like to think (it's possible i'm wrong haha) that I'm one step above a dummy. However, I had credits to burn and this caught my eye. It was an enjoyable listen, I certainly learned a number of things. The narrator's delivery was excellent and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to tackle British history and enjoy it as they journey through time.

Great overview of British History!

A great place to start if you’re looking for the history of Britain and the beginning of the Monarchy. It is superbly narrated and a terrific listen. I just finished listening for the second time. It has lead me to other books on British History and now I’m hooked.
