Following the colossal battle against the Empire's warriors, Eragon and Saphira narrowly escaped with their lives. But more awaits the Rider and his dragon, as Eragon finds himself bound by promises he may not be able to keep, including his oath to cousin Roran to help rescue his beloved Katrina. When unrest claims the rebels and danger strikes, Eragon must make choices that take him across the Empire and beyond, choices that may lead to unimagined sacrifice.

Conflict, action, adventure and one devastating death await listeners as Eragon battles on behalf of the Varden while Galbatorix ruthlessly attempts to crush and twist him to his own purposes. Can he become a leader who can unite the rebel forces and defeat the King?

The book and narration are excellent but the chapters do not follow the book, which is very frustrating when you are switching between the physical book and the audio.

Excellent book, shame about the chapters

I've committed myself now. Honestly this book would have gotten 3 stars if not for a joke that had me laughing so hard it will forever be my favourite moment in the series. It's early in the book, about Arya while the 3 characters speak. I won't say anymore for fear of spoiling it.
The jarring husky male voices of the dragons is less noticible to me now, and overall the story is okay. A bit boring, a bit long for what it actually covers. Feels like a fan fiction where the author is determined to hit an impressive word count rather than the words holding substance.
Lord of the rings is much shorter and holds so much more charm, its quality not quantity, but alas... Onto the final book then I can be done.

Ita a thing...

The characters still the strongest part of the book. But after an explosive first chapter our heroes fall into a cycle of fetch quests and meandering about philosophical questions that ruins the pacing in the middle of the book. The final arc starts great but the side story of the finale which we only got flashes of seemed more intresting than our main characters storyline. I'd say Eldest was a better listen.

A good sequel with pacing issues

The story is fabulous, as are the others in the series, but this one's chapters on audible to do not finish at the end of chapters in the book. It is a bit of a nightmare to find where you are when listening to audible in the car and coming back to the book after.
We love the stories in this series though and none of the previous books are like this.

fab story but not great following the book
