Summary
David Niven is remembered as one of Britain's best-loved actors. The archetypal English gentleman, he starred in over ninety films. He is also one of Hollywood's finest chroniclers. In this second volume, David Niven turns his attention to 'The Great Days of Hollywood' between 1935 and 1960. These were times of legendary film stars and despotic producers, of tycoons, of oddballs, and of classic movies. Rich in anecdote, and written in his inimitable humorous style, Bring on the Empty Horses is perhaps the most acclaimed sequel to an autobiography ever written.

Delightful, Witty, Fascinating!
Beautifully written, Niven in his element, sharing anecdotes and behind the scenes glimpses into Hollywood in the 30s and 40s. Photographs of some of the old supporting Actors would have been useful. I found myself googling images to prompt my memory at times. He manages to talk his way through some of the most glamorous periods in film history without ever being unkind or salacious. I loved this book and will now be ordering some of the films he beautifully brings to life.

Too short
Too much left out of the book(s), much abridged.
Still interesting but disappointing .
Good for a holiday listen.

Enjoyable listen.
A disappointment to the listener was that the book was an abridged edition which I did not notice when I purchased the book on their behalf and also it's companion, The Moon's a Balloon, at the same time. Otherwise, they enjoyed revisiting these entertaining autobiographies which were read by them several times in the past before their sight deteriorated too far to read the printed word.

Old world Hollywood
I thoroughly enjoyed David’s recollections of some of my favorite actors. He was an old fashioned gent to his very core.

Acknowledged classic of the genre
No doubt some of todays readers will be shocked and offended (they always are) because Niven speaks of a time and people whose mores aren’t exactly as the woke police would have us believe is the one and only legitimate perspective on everything in humanity right now. But for the rest of us, he’s a warm, intelligent, well mannered and amusing guide to this particular time and place, Hollywood. And especially some of its key people. He reserves his sharpest criticism for his younger self. It all in all, I wish there were more like him and his golden generation.
