Summary

Updated business wisdom from the founder of Dogfish Head, the nation's fastest growing independent craft brewery....

Starting with nothing more than a home brewing kit, Sam Calagione turned his entrepreneurial dream into a foamy reality in the form of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, one of America's best and fastest-growing craft breweries.

In this newly updated Second Edition, Calagione offers a deeper real-world look at entrepreneurship and what it takes to operate and grow a successful business. In several new chapters, he discusses Dogfish's most innovative marketing ideas, including how social media has become an integral part of the business model and how other small businesses can use it to catch up with bigger competitors. Calagione also presents a compelling argument for choosing to keep his business small and artisanal, despite growing demand for his products.

  • Updated to offer a more complete look at what it takes to keep a small business booming
  • An inspiring story of renegade entrepreneurialism and the rewards of dreaming big, working hard, and thinking unconventionally
  • Shows how to use social media to reach new customers and grow a business

For any entrepreneur with a dream, Brewing Up a Business, Second Edition presents an enlightening, in-depth look at what it takes to succeed on their own terms.

I've listened to about 10 beer/brewery/business...

... this is the only one that has had me stopping and going backwards to repeat the gems, get my tablet out and Google stuff, make me feel like there's a good chance you can make your success with a health dollop of cynicism thrown in. A good read, helpful and informative, I will definitely read it again...

Interesting listening

This is More about general business and entrepreneurship than about brewing specifically but interesting nonetheless

Excellent book about the beer business

Excellent book about the beer business. Sam has a great view on life. His approach is very down to Earth but with a strong business twist. Lots of great business ideas, philosophies and tips in here. I highly recommend this audio book.

Great book about starting a brewery

Thanks to an English degree Sam Calagione is an excellent story teller. This is a great book about staring your own small business. Sam's small business happens to be a brewery so that's where all of his examples come from. If you've ever considered opening a brewery or need some creative ideas in your small business read this book.

Captivating Informative

The title of the review may be a bit of an off-centered approach to describing a business book but Sam Calagione would approve. The book is well written, insightful and extremely informative. I'll be listening to it again.

The narrator, Kris Koscheski, is one of the best narrators I've listed to yet.

It was okay

I found this book difficult to listen to based on the absence of contractions - It was like listening to a computer read to me. Also, the book barely touches the business side of things outside the experience of this one brewer and his company, and I was hoping for more market-wide examples. Therefore I thought the title was a bit misleading - perhaps it could've had a subtitle like "The story of Sam Calagione and Dogfish Head Brewery" instead of the broad "Adventures in Beer"...

Interesting but repetitive

An interesting book from a beer pioneer from the east coast. A bit repetitive throughout but still valuable info to one whom might consider treading waters in the brewing business.

very informative and very inspiring

It made me reanalyze why I'm in the process of starting my own Brewery. There is more to it than just my own passion for making beer, but for the passion of making others happy with the product you provide.

Not bad

The end started to ramble. I didn't think the story at the end was necessary. All good business advice. Funny stories of the beginning and Sam's child hood、 give you a glimpse into Dogfish Head.
