Penelope, I know that it’s three o’clock in the morning, but I need to get this off my chest.
I can’t give you any more advice on landing this other guy, can’t tell you another “sexy” thing that you should do, or suggest a new set of filthy words that you should text him late at night.
As your best friend, I’ve reached my limit, and I can honestly say that he doesn’t deserve you.
I’m not saying all of this because I’m f--king jealous, or because he had the audacity to say that he makes more money than me. (I still can’t find his name on the Forbes 500 list, and I know damn well that he’s renting that Ferrari, but that’s a story for a different day).
He’s not who you think he is, and the better man has always been right in front of you....
You have every reason to never give me a chance since you know me better than anyone, and you agree with all the tabloids calling me The Cocky King of New York, and the Untamed Playboy of Manhattan. But I honestly believe that you’re better off with someone else, and I need you to see.

I adored this friends to lovers story which see’s Hayden (who was Penelope’s brothers best friend growing up) looking out for Penelope. He is not only her confidante but also her best friend, her life coach and sex coach. At some point, they both realise they have feelings for one another but neither wants to jeopardise their friendship so keeps that information to themselves.
Joe Arden pulls off a killer performance and portrays the cool, confident Hayden perfectly! Joe never fails to make us feel with his storytelling. There is no character this man can’t take on and hook us listeners in from the very first line to the last. Erin Mallon, the woman who can do it all and never fails to excel is the perfect Penelope. Erin showcases Penelope’s vulnerabilities and her wants, needs, and desires superbly. She takes Penelope on journey from naïve young woman to a wanton, sexual goddess!
My highlight of the book is the interaction between Penelope and Hayden when she wants his help replying to a dirty text message the guy she’s dating has sent her and baits poor Hayden into saying what he would have said if he was sexting her. Hayden’s line “I wouldn’t want to waste my time with words, I’d just show up to your place, bend you over the couch and show you!” was just the beginning of his response and Jesus, Mary mother of all that is holy, it only gets more outrageously filthy but I’m not giving the whole game away. Happy freaking New Year to me! What a way to kick off 2022 and more importantly Joeuary!
