Summary

An imperial family is found butchered. Officers of God are called to investigate. Evidence points to a rebel group trying to seed fear into the very heart of the empire itself.

Inspector Khlid takes the case and begins a harrowing hunt for those responsible. But when a larger conspiracy comes to light, will Inspector Khlid be able to trust those working within her own precinct?

A Decent Debut

Pick it up if you are a fan of the genre.

I have both compassion and patience for debut authors. After all, we must start somewhere right? Also it is a novela so the story is only just beginning.

I applaud the meticulous effort gone into self-publishing and the myriad of responsibilities that entails. it is quite an achievement and better to have something written and out there rather than sitting on an idea and it remaining on a word processor.

This is an enjoyable enough detective-style romp and the ending made me feel things were about to get far more interesting.

That now being said, I found the work a little bit derivative thematically and contextually, and the characterisation loose. For example having a 'Ministry of Truth' which felt straight out of Orwell's 1984.

I found it difficult to love and root for the characters as in truth I didn't feel vested in their journey as much as I would have liked. The relationships weren't developed enough and the dialogue felt indifferent in places. The basic prose, while moving the story along at a brisk pace would have been served better in my opinion by some deeper characterisation, especially with the key relationships.

The action, of which there are a few tense and potentially riveting moments, missed the mark in its lack of descriptive detail and atmospheric build up.

it was as if some of the scenes took place on a minimalist theatre stage rather than in a living, breathing world.

I'm still interested to see how the world-building and story develop from here as the set up for an engaging and satisfying payoff is front and centre by the end of the book.

If the story is deftly handled and builds sufficiently in Book 2, all the exposition can be written off as a slow-start that builds into a fascinating crescendo.

And I would love to see that.

Good start but way to short!

I have enjoyed this greatly but I do feel cheated that a whole credit has been charged for what is just a very short story or a single episode!

First book success!

A brilliant introduction into this world, everything you could want from a novella, as long as you enjoy being left wanting more! Can't wait for the next installment.

great introduction to this new world!

A good example of dark fantasy and mystery blended together. It gives just enough to let you wanting for more while at the same time being a contained story.

can't wait to read Rebel's Creed.

Refreshing tale on fantasy after all the Got craze.

It is interesting, it is. But it feels like something is missing, like the characters are simply not rounded enough and the story is so short, it feels like it goes in all directions, without cohesion.
I want to continue, but it was a flawed book.

Just brilliant!

What a great story. Loved this, I mean really loved it. The plot, the characters, and the storyline! But f**k me if the book is only 3 hours long! Would I have bough it if I had realised...NO! But am I glad I did...YES!

This is a difficult one to give 5 stars too because of its short length.

A great entry

Narrators were, of course, brilliant. The story is gripping, but felt more like a prologue. It seems to me that this is the backstory to what will happen next. It did, however, make me excited to read the rest, so I guess you could call it a success.

short but a great start

short story leaving more questions than answers but that's not a bad thing. opening a wide new world with great possibilities. as long as the series stays away from to many clichés it should be great

Great debut

Lovely short story. Would like to see a bit more world building thrown in.
