Summary

The number one New York Times best-selling author of Grain Brain, and his physician son, explore how modern culture threatens to rewire our brains and damage our health, offering a practical plan for healing.

Contemporary life provides us with infinite opportunities, along with endless temptations. We can eat whatever we want, whenever we want. We can immerse ourselves in the vast, enticing world of digital media. We can buy goods and services with the touch of a button or the swipe of a finger. But living in this 24/7 hyper-reality poses serious risks to our physical and mental states, our connections to others and even to the world at large.

Brain Wash builds from a simple premise: Our brains are being gravely manipulated, resulting in behaviours that leave us more lonely, anxious, depressed, distrustful, illness-prone and overweight than ever before. Based on the latest science, the audiobook identifies the mental hijacking that undermines each and every one of us, and it presents the tools necessary to think more clearly, make better decisions, strengthen bonds with others and develop healthier habits. Featuring a 10-day boot camp program, including a meal plan and 40 delicious recipes, Brain Wash is the key to cultivating a more purposeful and fulfilling life.

Vilifying meat without good science backning it up

Vilifying meat without good science backning it up, dont eat junk, sure, but meat is a very important part of the human direkt, vegetables, not so much. Otherwise a good book that makes you want to sleep more, meditate and spend time with nature.

Good content

Sadly nothing new here. All info has been lifted from other , better books, watered down and rehashed in a simplified formula ..........I could have written it myself .!!
Special thanks to Stephan Hawking for the narration

The narrator's voice is robotic and unpleasant

I read the sample chapters on Amazon and felt I would get something from this book. It seemed as though it was aimed precisely at me. The book is good, full of interesting and useful studies, as well as some good albeit sometimes obvious and simple tips and suggestions. I would give the book 4/5 over all, but on audible the narration is tough. It feels as if being spoken to by a robot, and unlike other books, because of this it is not engaging and my attention was lost often...

It's a shame really - good book, ruined by bad narration.

Wow! What an eye opener

Working with teenagers this book confirmed alot of suspicions I had about what was going on with their hard wiring, as they're certainly a different breed nowadays than when I was at school! Also gave me some great insight to myself and my own challenges as a tired weight gaining mum and as a parent of a young daughter! Loved everything about it and will defo work with the 10 day plan. Thank you 👍

Terrible audible

This me be a very good read, however, the computerised, monosyllabic, dull voice makes it impossible to follow
I’m rating the audible only

Did not work

I purchased and downloaded the book but it will not play. Quite disappointing as it seemed like a good listen.

Extremely valuable

A life changing book. I am very grateful that the Perlmutters wrote this book and it all makes such beautiful sense although it's not all easily apparent. There were many 'aha!' moments throughout this book, even to someone who loves reading this genre, there's still lots of new nuggets to be found. Very much worth my time and has changed my life and I am so excited about the information herein that I have started teaching my kids what I have learned - hearing my 4 year old say with such confidence 'prefrontal cortex' is gorgeous and even he understands that there are things he can do to influence the growth and power of his brain and happiness! I will be giving it as gifts and recommending it to friends.

Recommended as an overwiev.

Not a bad book to start with but just a scratch on the surface of multiple deep and interesting topics. This is an overwiev of health topics relevant for the modern human, nothing is in depth and if you have a specific health issue or interest there are other books more suitable. If you want a orientation for further reading this may do the trick. Not for the person who have already read many health related books.
