One of the few times where the film is better than the book. But in all honesty, the film is a very different story to the book. It’s very much a story of two halves, but neither is particularly satisfying. Just as you are engaging with the narrative the story jumps years ahead leaving many questions unanswered.

I wanted to say that this is nothing like the pillion film at all. story not the same, ending was a shock, but a lot of drivel from the author about the remaining character.

Sexy, funny and moving

Just finished this great compact novel. I saw the film based on it last year. Mars-Jones’ novel provides a completely different perspective on the story, focused - as books do better - on the internal world of the first-person narrator. Perfect companion pieces. I read Mars-Jones’ early books many years ago and hadn’t realised he’s been publishing all these years. Will now go back and read more.
