A reluctant con artist and a professor with too many secrets are bound together in Ali Hazelwood’s intoxicating new dark academia romance—available only in audio!

Veronica “Vero” Mercer grew up with grifters for parents, and she knows her way around a con. When grad school bills pile up and her friends are in trouble, she turns her art history skills into a forgery side hustle.

It’s supposed to be a short term deal, but her work draws the attention of Dr. Viktor Ashworth, a reserved, very British professor. Instead of turning her in, Ashworth kidnaps her—politely—and makes an unusual offer: forge a mysterious ancient manuscript for him.

Soon Vero finds herself spending long nights with Viktor, bent over rare vellum samples and obscure inks. But as the con grows riskier, Vero has to wonder: what does Viktor really want, and why can’t she stay away?

It was okay! It lacked some of the character development which you find in her other books, but it was still enjoyable. My main issue is with MMC’s narrator, who unfortunately wasn’t the right fit for this. Was it really hard to find a native British English speaker?

I liked this but it is a novella so go in with the right expectations! I prefer Ali's other books.

short and sweet

whats not to like good narration , a bookish heroine with a moraly grey outlook and a stowick vampire who hunts a truely bad villianous ancient mass murdering vampire

A Vampire romance with a HEA

Despite the story sounding a bit rushed towards the end I really enjoyed Vero and Viktor together. Knowing that everyone knew how much he was in love with her and she actually suspecting it was refreshing.
The plot twists had me gasping, they all caught me by surprise

Such a comfort listen

The narration of the male lead brought the quality of the story down so much, he was great as Mortimer whose smarminess was captured really well but there was nothing attractive about the male lead voice and made me cringe more often than not. It took away from the plot so much because having an unattractive male love interest completely detracts from any romantic story

This was massively let down by the male narrator
