About this listen

Bug has hit her 30s with a bump. An almost wedding, an almost ex-husband, and a bookshop that’s almost turning a profit. With the help of her best friend – free spirit, activist and all-round legend Winnie, she’s going to make it all come good. Probably. Definitely. Maybe.

At least she’s got her friends around her. They may have only met through her book group, but when things are tough, who do you want beside you but Sami - a Phd holding, Bronte obsessed Cabbie; Fiona - a CEO with an ex she can’t forget; and James - a well-meaning rugby fan who hasn’t read a book for many years, but absolutely wants to give it a go.

This bittersweet romantic comedy follows the gang through heartbreak and adventure, over the course of the ten books they read at book group.

Jess Moore is a playwright, scriptwriter, and filmmaker. Her debut play, Gin for Breakfast received an Offie nomination for Best New Play. Her short films, BITTER LEMON and ALONE ONCE have screened internationally at festivals, including Cannes Shorts, Montreal Independent Film Festival, and DIFF. Her play, Next Time sold out at Edinburgh Fringe. She is writing and directing a short film version of that play, entitled To Have and To Hold.

Recently almost-married Bug and her best friend Winnie are getting ready for the inaugural meeting of their book group. Fiona is there, of course, with her Uber driver Sami; and a random man called James who hasn’t read the book. Or any books. It’s going to change all their lives. They just don’t know that yet. Welcome to the bookshop.

    Sep 8 2021

Bug and Winnie are encouraging Fiona to dip a toe back into the dating pool – but there are a lot of frogs. As the three women head to the art gallery to scope out one of Fiona’s possible beaus, Bug finds herself bidding on a giant oil painting of a pink rocket. It is a rocket, isn’t it?

    Sep 8 2021

Sami gives James some pointers in the gentle art of flirting. Be cool, don’t go in too hard, and double check they like the right Bronte sister. It’s amazing they’re both still single. Amazingly for James – it works. He has a date. But why doesn’t he want Bug to know about it?

I was just looking for something to listen to before going to bed and glad I found this. I didn’t want to stop listening when I started. The episodes are not too long and won’t make people bored. The story is unpredictable. Actors’ performances were so good. Highly recommended, especially if you’re into women empowerment and feminism.

Good story, excellent performance

More a drama than a podcast, this is OK: easy to listen to and perhaps good for those who enjoy chick-lit. It follows a group of women and some men, their friendships with each other and their relationships... or more like their thoughts on relationships and dating. Quite liked one of the male characters, Sami.

One of the themes is feminism. A couple of unexpected things happen near the end.

Good voice actors.

Easy to listen to pod about friendships+dating

This will have you laughing and crying and all in the same five minutes. Jess Moore has ingeniously given us a delicous feast of beautifully complex real human beings as characters. We don't know what they are going to say or do next and this is so refreshing as a lisenter. She has created a story with twists and turns that have you on the edge of your seat..what will they say next? What will they do next? So real so human so complex so heart warming. I raced through it ...couldn't get enough and was bereft when I reached the end. I want more! And on TV too! I want to see these delicious characters on screen and i want to spend more time with them. Bring on the tv series! Utter brilliance!

A pow wow knockout series
