Summary
Jack Parlabane is an investigative journalist who is not averse to breaking the law for a good story.
Scottish parliament is in catatonic shock after experiencing its first dose of Westminster sleaze, and the Catholic Church of Scotland is taking advantage of the politicians' discomfort. Behind the scenes the truth is obscured.
Aware he's missing out on a great story; Parlabane discovers that contacts and a way with words is no defence against people he has helped to put away.

Fantastic in parts - boring in places
There is no doubt that Christopher Brookmyre writes with impressive intelligence but parts of this were just too much about educating the reader (or listener) - almost to the point of browbeating. There was so little action and so much information about the Scottish political and religious landscape that I almost gave up on it. I'm glad I didn't as I was rewarded for my perseverance with a scene that had me crying with laughter. I would say that the book is about 50% action and 50% political education and for this reason I still found it a bit hard going. However, it is written with wit and intelligence and took some interesting twists and turns..

Skip the first half of book!
If this has been my first CB book of have stopped. You can skip to middle of bill and still get the whole story. Too much political satire not relevant to story.

Entwining
Angus King has a pretty strong Scots accent, but I soon got used to it & enjoyed listening to him in fact.
The story is very well woven & had me guessing.
It contains murder, blackmail, manipulation, coercion . . . & keeps going right to the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed it (& there are no frogs 👍🏼)

Absolutely hilarious and brilliant
Very poignant, entertaining and a great commentary on new Labour and the church. Brookmyres understanding of people is second to none.

Hillarious!
twist after turn after twist with hillarious classic Brookmyre rants and character dialogue.
The prison character dialogue was especially impressive.
Perhaps I've read too many of these but could see the ending but never how he got there and non of the twists and turns in the story. Gripping and surprising.
