Commander Berkley Levine is content with her life as a Top Gun instructor in Fallon, Nevada, flying F-18s for the Navy and trying to get over the death of her sister. A change of government and a new equality initiative place Captain Aidan Sullivan at the helm of the Navy's newest carrier, the USS Jefferson. Her first mission could have serious international consequences if she fails. Aidan's orders are to destroy two sites housing the nuclear program of an unfriendly nation, and she can think of only one person she trusts enough to get the job done: her old lover Berkley.

Blue Skies will take you from Fallon, Nevada, to the Sea of Japan and beyond, as Berkley leads an elite group of pilots over enemy territory. As they embark on this adventure, Berkley and Aidan try to rediscover what they gave up for family, duty, and country.

'Good Story' spoilt by poor narration ! The writing was overblown at times made worse by the narrators interpretation of some of the characters. Captain Sullivan sounded (well) just wrong ,not matching up with 'the exceptional Naval Officer' she is meant to be ? Berkeley didn't come across much better. I know this is fiction but it was fairly 'tongue in cheek' at times.
The story though was a good one if you like political intrigue . Warning the cliff-hanger is just that and you will need to buy the next in the series to find out what happens (it's not a standalone)!

This book and its sequel should be made into an action movie with Commander Berkley Levine as a kind of super-hero. Even though the books contain some unpalatable concepts around torture, American imperialism and illegal detention in Guantanamo Bay to name a few issues, these are not realistic books. The narrator's clever, tongue-in-cheek reading style conveys the spirit of the tale well and reminds us that we are in 'super-hero' territory rather than the real world. Such a shame Ali Vali has not continued with this series.

Would make a great action movie
