Summary
When a dead body is found in a North London flat, it seems like a straightforward domestic murder until a bloodstained sliver of X-ray is found clutched in the dead woman's fist - and it quickly becomes clear that this case is anything but ordinary. DI Thorne discovers that the victim's mother had herself been murdered 15 years before by infamous serial killer Raymond Garvey. The hunt to catch Garvey was one of the biggest in the history of the Met and ended with seven women dead.
When more bodies and more fragments of X-ray are discovered, Thorne has a macabre jigsaw to piece together until the horrifying picture finally emerges. A killer is targeting the children of Raymond Garvey's victims. Thorne must move quickly to protect those still on the murderer's list, but nothing and nobody are what they seem. Not when Thorne is dealing with one of the most twisted killers he has ever hunted....

Not the best in the series
Sadly - but inevitably, i suppose - Mark Billingham has never quite managed to capture the excellence of the first two or three in the Tom Thorne series. This isn't bad and has some good moments.
However, I have to say that I think he is wrong to narrate his books himself - he's a good writer but I find his narration flat and for me it detracts from a proper enjoyment of the book. I honestly think I would have enjoyed this book more if it had been narrated by someone more skilled.

Tom Thorne at his best
I love Mark Billingham's writing - his sharp humour makes me smile and brings his characters to life. A great story - very believable and not over the top. Couldn't stop listening.

Another brilliant story
Beautifully presented and an enthralling story with Billingham's usual mixture of "gory detail" and suspense. Another outstanding book - I have read or listened to all his others.

Another enjoyable Thorne!
I genuinely really enjoy Mark Billingham's writing style. He nails the way the human brain ponders thoughts and scenarios and his dry sense of humour is great. He makes you connect with the characters so well. I love his narration. I like the fact it feels quite direct and to the point, again - dry. For me you know he knows his characters and I this really comes across.

really enjoyable
This is the 3rd Thorn novel i have listened to or read and i must say it is the best of the bunch. Mark narrating his own story brought the characters to life. For once the twist at the end came as a bit of a shock. First time in a long time i hadn't figuered out the story twist.
