Summary

Instead of talking about investing, this audiobook will focus on how blockchain technology works and how it might be used in the future. Topics you can expect to see in this book include:

  • What problem does blockchain solve?
  • How can technology make our institutions faster and less expensive?
  • Could technology replace our institutions (like governments, banks, etc.) altogether?
  • How does blockchain build trust between strangers?
  • How does blockchain increase security for transactions and contracts?
  • Can blockchain be used outside of finance?
  • What is a block?
  • What is the chain and why do we need it?
  • What’s a technical explanation of what happens in the blockchain?
  • What is mining and why do we need it?
  • Are there alternatives to mining to create a blockchain?
  • What’s the story of Bitcoin?
  • Does Bitcoin have any problems?
  • What is Ethereum, and what is a smart contract?
  • Are there other blockchain technologies I should know about?
  • How are companies adopting blockchain?
  • What regulatory hurdles might slow blockchain adoption?

Whew, that’s a lot of questions. If you’re ready to tackle them, I’m ready.

Comprehensive and Enjoyable!

I have read the first edition of this book. The book is well-structured and it covers a broad spectrum of knowledge around blockchain technology. What is interesting about this book is that it is one of the rare blockchain books that you could read the majority of it by non-tech people. The other thing is that it covers many important aspects about Blockchain starting from digital currencies, alt-coins down to non-financial applications.

I liked that book and Fill knowledge gaps about this interesting topic.

For the beginner!

An extremely readable introduction to blockchain. Aside from a few minor editorial oversights an extremely readable book on the fundamentals of this important technology. The author did a very good job of avoiding being overly technical.

Good introduction to blockchain technology

This book was just what I was looking for. It strikes the right balance in terms of language and discussion: it's written in a way that assumes that we're not advanced enough to be writing code, but, at the same time, it doesn't assume we're complete idiots that need to read a (too) lengthy explanation either. Sure, there are other, more in-depth works that you might want to read; however, for someone just starting out, who wants to delve into what makes cryptocurrencies different and why it should interest people, this is a great starting point.

Informative

Thanks Alan! This book was an unintimidating tech read on a topic that many would be well-informed to read (hear). In fact, it was so well written that it came across more as a societal information piece than a technology publication. Even the "liberty to skip" techno section was quite tolerable!

Clear and Clarity

I loved the lay explanation of the concept of blockchain technology. Alan explanation is very comprehensive. I will like to listen to more on the topic and would surely follow the issues around as it develops.

Excellent book about an exciting future

Good but it listen like all of the world's issues through the lens of BlockChain. Therefore probably more info than many people are looking for. The quality of the content was very good in terms of social impact and analysis but I recall a technical breakdown on how BlockChain actually works.
